Girls are doing it for themselves:-

Guys, look away now or your eyes will start watering. A South African woman has found a way to deal with rapists;
According to the website,

The Rape-aXe system consists of a latex sheath, which contains razor-sharp barbs. The device is worn in her vagina like a tampon. When the attacker attempts vaginal penetration the barbs attach themselves to the penis, causing great discomfort. The device must be surgically removed, which will result in the positive identification of the attacker and subsequent arrest.
Just try the flash player demonstration;

clever. Ouchie.

I'm guessing the slightly lawless nature of some parts of SA warrant this kind of measure as a matter of course?

Hopefully the effect will be so disabilitating that the arrest will be for rape rather than murder.

Perhaps a dye or something that colors the penis flourescent purple until new skin forms might be safer for the victim.

Good point. :(

Neal Stephenson wrote about a Dentata device that women could wear, that inserted a needle into the big vein and injected a science-fictionally-instant anesthetic that knocked the rapist out. Maybe something like that could be added to the little barbs...

As she points out though, murder is always a possibility with rape. But pain to the penis can be fairly disabling. She says one women got away when her assailant caught himself on his own zipper, and that's what gave her the idea.

My questions are; how comfortable is this for the woman? Because she'd obviously want to wear it 24/7. She'll need to be able to remove it and rinse it off once in a while.

And it won't be long before men figure it out and simply force the woman to remove it herself before the rape.

I read a non-censent story last week thats pretty effing gross...even for me! And nuthing bothers me. But it was over the top. And the hell of it is, you could post it here.

Hmmm. Is that what they're talking about when they discuss "concealed carry?"

Dayum, sumpin' like that could ruin your whole day— it seems ingenious, what am I missin'. What are the unintended consequences?

Unintended consequences? Wouldn't death rate as such?

Those who rape and then murder would still be inclined to do so, but perhaps the other type, the 'rape only' type, would not be so driven and would just scurry off. After, hopefully, a good vomit.

I mean while we're speculating and pondering and all ....

I just don't quite know what I think.

We've all been told to carry the mace and a whistle and avoid the Rhopynol, but this. . .

What happens if you have a martini or two and take him home and forget to take it out?

A lifetime relationship has just gone down the tubes.

It is my understanding that in certain parts of South Africa, roaming groups of young men rape and kill young women (as young as 7 years old in at least one case I read of) for the sport of it and the vast majority of the time these individuals are never prosecuted or even pursued. This "device" is not designed to handle a merely overly zealous suitor after "tee many martoonis." It is designed to save these young women's lives in many cases or at the very least exact some vengeance on these wretched criminals.

This is what happens in the same Neal Stephenson story I mentioned, in fact, and the heroine doesn't get laid. The dude isn't permanently scarred though-- just headachey.

But if it's a "lifetime relationship" he ought to know you're wearing the thing.

And in South Africa-- the women who are in danger don't drink martinis.

Oh I think there will be a whole bunch inclined to murder (if they are left physically capable of doing it) after that who weren't inclined to murder before.

Again, I can see it as a device of justified retribution. Can't really see it as tipping over on the scale toward saving the woman's life. In your example alone, the emasculated male won't be the only one present. If the woman is going to be killed anyway, it's at least some form of justified retribution, yes--if she wasn't going to be killed in a gang rape before that, I think she most definitely is going to be now. And most likely three other women that night too in a rampage.

Yeah, maybe. I guess both acts are physical violence against another, so it might not be hard to go one more step, even if it's not been your inclination beforehand.

Ah well, if I were one of those women and I was about to be raped and killed anyway, I'd be happy to know that I seriously fucked up the dick of one of them so he wouldn't do it to another woman anytime soon. That'd be fine by me.

It's an interesting idea, but not very effective against a group. One man takes a hit for the team and the rest are free and clear.

I think the thought of it may be a deterrent, but in practice it has many shortcomings.

I'd wear one if I were a black woman in South Africa. My lifespan is less than twenty years, statistically anyway.

Further, I'd anoint the prongs with curare or whatever poison is available. Might as well take one of them out with me when they do for me.
