So they have spent over half of the trillion dollars in stimulus money, so where is it?

As of today I am, I am sad to say, among those millions that are currently unemployed. A merger and reorg have dashed any hopes of a Happy, Merry Christmas for my family.

So where is that stimulus money that was supposed to create millions of jobs across the country? This is really Hope and Change I can believe in...NOT!

So the list of people let go by my company is long and distinguished and will most likely drive the unemployment rate above the 10% mark.

So the job hunt begins again. :(

I'm sorry you lost your job, Zeb, but you know the beginnings of this recession were in place long before Obama was in office.

Perhaps now you don't "have yours" you'll be a little more amenable to seeing things from the side of those who don't have.

At least one can hope.

I will have to abstain from answering this for the time being...I suddenly feel the need to take a nap.

Welcome to the world of the rest of us, Zeb. Good luck finding compassion and understanding from your Republican companions-- especially not the ones who still have jobs. They'll tell you it's your own damn fault you're unemployed, and as such don't deserve any help when the jobs you have been hunting don't come through for you.

Gee CLOUDY that was a sweet way to tell ZEB to fuck himself.

I'm afraid I don't see the connection between Obama and your job loss, Zeb.

I'm very sorry you are out of work though.

Come to Virginia. We've got stimulus-money projects and worker paychecks created by them all over the place. The stimulus money certainly is reaching down farther and broader than anything that happened in the Bush administration in the recession that started and became full blown under the Bush administration.

Perhaps you live in one of those states where the Republican governor refused the stimulus money and projects(?)

Plus you have an election the Democrats are desperate to win.

So far, the stimulus projects I have seen here involve road work. They repaved (ie, resurfaced) part of the main highway in town and they are completely redoing the interstate right across the state border.

They screwed this up back in the primary. They picked a country hick (when Virginia has gone urban) who had already been beaten by the Republican candidate in a state election. They are beyond desperate.

No, the stimulus money being noticed in Virginia is mostly because Virginia's governor is the national Democratic Party chairman. The money and projects are probably just as prevalent in other states--they just don't like admitting that they are getting the help from the feds. Like everyone else, they enjoy having the federal government as a convenient whipping boy.

Ditto for Michigan. Although with all the road construction around here, maybe that's where some of the new jobs are.

There's a threat of a government shut-down looming (Nov 1st) because they can't manage to agree on how to fix the budget. Of course, Michigan also has the highest unemployment rate in the coutnry (15.2% last I heard) and part of the budget cuts the state government wants involve schools and education. So I ask myself (and emailed my congressman, too - not that it'll get me any reply) where the hell the billions of dollars from the state lottery is going? It's claiming to go 100% to schools, but with all the reports of schools struggling to make their budgets, I'm beginning to wonder.

But yeah, I basically wonder where the billions of dollars of the "government bailout" went, since the taxpayers are actually the ones footing the bill on this one. Michigan was supposedly supposed to get a chuck of that bailout. Yeah, still waiting for that one.

Sorry you're among the unemployed, Zeb. I know it's tough.

Our gay governor got several million to train the unemployed to be..get this...cosmetologists. Even the Usual Suspect papers are saying WTF? Florida has zero demand for new hairdressers. Other stimulus money is paying for Medicaid, teachers, cops, and firemen. No new jobs were created.

Sorry, I had to laugh at the juxtaposition of your avatar and the claim that Florida didn't need any cosmetologists. :D

The stimulus money runs out soon and tax revenues are about 22% less than normal.

Every time someone is fired the government loses taxes, commerce loses business, and the government pays unemployment, Medicaid, and food stamps.

An article in the paper on Sunday reports that banks arent loaning to small business; theyre sitting on the bail-out money by investing it in government bonds (Obama gives them money and they loan it back to him for interest), or loaning it to special interests connected to the government....or officials themselves.

The whole deal is a scam to save the first class passengers.

Good luck with the job hunt Zeb. It's a mother fucker out there.

I had some work done on my car yesterday. My mechanic is a young friend who works part-time becuz business is bad where he works. He's not employed as a mechanic. So I pay him cash. We both catch a break. Two weeks ago he repaired a broken drain pipe for me; it took 20 minutes and I paid him $50. My plumber wont come for less than $200.

This is where Americans are now.

Very soon we'll have 2 dominant economic systems in America; one ordained by the guvmint, elites, perfessers, and unions, and the other will be informal, tax free, and used by ordinary people. Our Al Capone gangster government will have some competition.

The grey market began to flourish the day ebay opened up.

I buy, barter and sell via the internet, I look for services via craigslist.org. The last time I needed work on my laptop, I checked there, found a local guy, drove over and sat in his living room-- played with his kid and their new puppy, while he worked at his kitchen table. That was six months ago, too-- he did well!

There will be a lot more of it because people need the money to survive. eBay is traceable income, states and IRS are hot to tax the sales.

I certainly have found it much easier to get service done--and cheaper--since we sank into recession. We're busy doing all of those house and garden refurbishments that we couldn't even get bids on three years ago. And at about three-quarters of what the going rates would have been then.

Zeb, it's amazing that few people ever looked at the numbers when Obama was hawking the so-called stimulus package. He promised to creat 150,000 jobs over two years in an environment where 500,000 were being lost each month.

Actually, most of the stimulus money went to those who financed his presidential election campaign.

Still think he's a great guy?

Last I looked the two years aren't up yet. And Obama had a gigantic hole to climb out of left by the previous administration (which is the one that started the stimulus package planning and delivery, by the way).

You can either be part of the solution or you can continue sitting on your hands and backbiting anything you can reach.

The economy needs 100,000 new jobs every month to absorb young people coming out of school. They arent even counted as unemployed cuz they havent worked before. Add to this the 250,000 -300,000 people fired every month, and we have a serious problem, folks. And no one is concerned about it.

GMAC made a request for a 3rd bailout. They need $13 BILLION this time.

Jenny you must have me mixed up with someone...not me. I have never sung his praises except as the Chicago Style swindler he is. He is not only bad news for the economy, he's bad news for the country and only the blind, deaf and dumb follow him down the dark path to oblivion.
