Point me to somewhere where I can find literate role players willing to (or capable of...) strike a balance between an "all sex, all the time" RP and "sex is pointless and we'll ban you for trying" RP? Particularly one that's freeform and doesn't have a set storyline. You know, it's just, "Here's the setting, throw in your characters and have them interact".

I'm just getting so tired of this. I cannot possibly be the only goddamned RPer who approaches RP the way I do. Someone in another place described the RP I do as almost like a soap opera, which I guess is accurate enough, though unflattering. I'm very concerned with character thought and motivation and all. There has to be somewhere for me, or at least a person or two interested in playing with me. I've been RPing for a solid ten fucking years and I'm not a bad writer. This is ridiculous.

Generally you should be specific about what you want. I've not been on the site long, but ten years of experience should lead you to the knowledge that prudent planning would take care of it. Obviously your more into a romance theme. In those you simply wait for the sexual encounters to happen, which they will eventually. Otherwise you'll run into your problem with too much sex for your liking, or a story driven plot.

Aside from that, just simply make a setting and tell someone what you want. There is a nice little search engine on Lit for reading someones past threads. If you like their writing, simply look through it a bit. You should be able to use common sense after that point to judge their likes, dislikes, and writing style.

Sorry if that doesn't help much, but this is the SRP. Most of the god ones here are going to want their sex and story intermingled, so one isn't sacrificed for the other. Hope I might have possibly helped in some way, and that you find your partner soon. Good luck.

I've noticed that the real issue is that most people either want one or the other, not both. That's why mine keep dying, I think. I come up with a fantastic plot that lots of people praise. But not enough of them like it to actually consider posting to it.

Oh, I wasn't even talking about here. I know this place isn't really suited to me, because I'm not a story-based RPer, and most forum RPers don't just go "well let's throw our characters into this setting and see what happens!", in my experience. I guess I was hoping that this wasn't the only place you people RPed, and you might know of somewhere better suited.

I only RP here but ideas do often work like that with me. I don't like to work out too many details in advance (with a couple of exceptions, before I'm accused of hypocrisy) because doing that makes it less fun. Having said that, I RP as a submissive and that often necessitates letting my co-writer drive things. If my character is bound and gagged for example, the scene is completely in the hands of the dominant writer. Another reason I don't like to plan too much is that I like surprises and too much detailed discussion can make writing the damn thing feel almost unnecessary.

I think if one person has too much plot control though, it can stifle things. As a sub for example, nothing bores me more than having some domly RP type have a character command me to do something, which I then have to parrot more or less verbatim, with some sensory/emotional description thrown in for his titillation. That's just so much fun for me (insert rolleye smiley). Plus, I like being able to throw a co-writer a curveball without worrying that I'll derail the the thread or make him/her get their knickers in a knot.

I write mostly 1 to 1 but I think also that group threads can have more freedom for random interaction and lets-just-see-where-this-take-us-ness because the more people you have contributing to an RP, the less creative control you retain as the person who dreamed up the premise and recruited the protagonists.

So I think there are definitely people who think like you Vixo and if you check my stuff for example, you'll find that I do try to balance plot and sex, though I will admit to getting distracted occasionally.

One thing I think that really helps, as Dark_Nova touched on, is that if you're not too heavy on planning and details, be very specific about the kind of co-writer you want. I've specified things like, 'must have good SPG, be able to write moderately long posts, post 2 or 3 times a week etc' and there's no reason not to add 'be able to make it up as they go along' to that list. Somewhere out there, a compatible co-writer will snap you up knowing that you'll get along famously.

It's all part of the Quantum Law Of Internet Physics: If you've thought about it, there are a thousand sites dedicated solely to it, with at least a million global enthusiasts. Put the word out and someone will come running.

Ok, end of lecture. That's my tuppence.

I think a lot of it is screening your prospective writer prior to writing with them, and giving them a pretty good idea of what sort of balance you're looking for. If your cowriter is good, they will generally be able to match you. Oddly enough I know several people, in my opinion, fall into the category of balanced story to sex ratio...

Personally I don't seem to do very well when I try to "Plot" what happens. Most of the time it's given a setting, this is where the leading characters start and lets see where they go. Occasionally they head down the "straight sex, minimal plot" route, and occasionally they go down the "all story (where'd the sex go?)" route...

All in all, I think it begins with finding/reading something that you like of another writer. If they consistently write well, then their cowriters will probably be on the same par you're looking for. Generally that starts several leads to pretty decent cowriters to hit up and ask. (PM me and I can give you a couple names I've found balanced)

Thanks for the replies. I was reaaaally frustrated that day, haha. OK, uhm. I'm in a slow process of making a page to describe a setting I'd like to do for a group RP. It'd be a big park on one edge of the town my character lives in, with all these tents and other types of constructions that can be quickly disassembled if needed--with businesses in them, mostly geared toward entertainment of various types. A small bar, some small restaurants, a tattoo parlor. Some sexual ones too, since sex work is legal there, though I haven't really thought of how to categorize them. I wrote a quick (and somewhat lame) post involving a nude dancer, but I think it was more contortionism than erotic dancing, she just happened to be nude.

Anywho, would anyone be interested in that? I'd probably write a new post for it. I'm entirely too shy to PM people asking for RP, haha. I'm terrified of either rejection, or of being too difficult to set an RP up with so they get frustrated and don't bother.

Vixo if youre going to propose a group thread, I'd suggest you open an actual group OOC and give the information about your ideas there, and request character bios from those interested. Set yourself up a good first introduction post that will grab peoples attention..

Good luck with it. If the first post gives more, and describes the setting well, as I personally love detail, even in OOC descriptions, I'd possibly be interested in running a character if it takes off, and my posting style suites.
