and shall we ask laurel to close it and replace the threads back into the main forum?

I'd prefer it back with the rest of the forum. I'd be much more likely to participate.

I'm pretty sure I said something against it in the first place, and my opinion still stands.

I forget they are up there but I think the subforum was started to keep them from falling off the front page of the AH so quickly back during the election crap.

Why they didn't make a political subforum is what i want to know. Leave the writerly stuff in the AH and get the politics out.

Ditto. Putting the political threads a gated community makes a hella lot more sense to me.

Flash-fic and the 300 word challenge are in the AH. Both fade away for weeks at a time. The last post to Flash-fic was a month ago. There are only a few people participating in it even when it is brought back up to page one.

All the Kink Bingo threads will fall away within days, filling up the back pages.

I don't see how bringing them back will make any difference. If someone was interested in doing one of the challenges, they would already be posting to those threads.

I've done a couple of the challenges (because I know little).
I'd like to see it as a sticky on the front page (so it never leaves), BUT
it needs the 'experts' to review it more frequently and make practical comments.

I used to post quite frequently in the Flash Fic thread. I miss writing those little gems. I should scrounge around those back pages and bump it again.

I think it would almost have to be something such as "Links to interesting/informative topics in the AH" or something for it to really hit home with anybody who doesn't know what it is.

Most people have a habit of scrolling right past every sticky thread on a forum, anyway :p Comes from too many forums over the years with half a page of them at the top of every page.

I'm glad you (or someone else) did. I've missed it too, but gave up when no one participated.

Maybe this time will be different. :D

Speaking as fresh meat, I'd enjoy seeing what you're talking about. I know I'd participate.

I'm not technically a new member, but I am fairly new to the Forums.

*purring* c'mere baby...
That's a challenge thread; exactly (more or less) one hundred words that tell a complete story on a subject. The prompts change every ten stories. chosen by the person who wrote the tenth drabble...

And there's a subforum up there that has lots of stuff going on, but hardly ever seen. That's what we are talking about taking down, and releasing all those minnows into this bigger fishpond

Well, I've tried it and found that while my counting was off (I counted 100 before, 97 after posting), the exercise was fun. I only hope I got the point, or that someone will enlighten me if I didn't.

One question...when do you find time to write and participate?

One question...when do you find time to write and participate?

A lot of us have forgotten how to "write" because we spend so much time "participating" in the forums...

And some of us are stay at home people that have way too much time on our hands.

And some of us slack off at work...

When it got split up, I was against it for egoistic reasons.

I have the attention span of a flea, and not seeing a writing challenge right up front means I have to specifically look for them. Which I don't, because then I think of something else.

So purely from my personal perspective, I'd like to see 'em merged again. But don't let my scattered brain be the judge of what's best for y'all.

If it's decided to merge it back into the main forum, then we can make sure all of the threads are indexed in the Library before they are moved back. And as long as someone pms me (or Stella) with the thread info, any new challenge threads can be added as well so they will always be easy to find. (that is of course, as long as the url of the thread doesn't change when it's moved)

The URL should remain the same, as it only uses the thread reference number. The bits locating a thread in a forum section, sub-forum, etc. are behind the scenes and can be changed without affecting existing links.

We've talked about this before and I thought the consensus was that a subforum was worth a a try, but to see if we could have Laurel bring the challenges/contests back. Of course, from here on out we could just start fresh and post them to the main page anyway.

The challenges are going to struggle either way. Right now, they're in their own little neighborhood few people go (I just found out it exists). On the other hand, in the main AH they frequently get trampled by other traffic.

One problem that I've noticed is the default 3-day pruning leaves you with only three or four visible posts anyway....
