A German soldier cleans his rifle while Hitler is walking by. The weapon fires accidentally and the bullet hits Hitler, who dies.


Who of the two would you grant the Nobel Peace Prize?
 
Staufenberg, hands down. His intents are what drives him to take action, thereby inspiring others to take action.

The German soldier doesn't deserve it, because it is a fluke- if anything, *the gun itself* would deserve it... not that the gun would know what to do with the prize money associated with it.

Neither.

You don't achieve peace by killing people - even Hitler. Yes, I agree that the assassination of Hitler (and some other dictators) was morally justified and might even have been a good thing (the assassination of Hitler would almost certainly have been a good thing), but it still doesn't qualify for a peace prize.
