I have read a lot of the LW stories. It's been said before, but I'll say it again: as a "category," LW doesn't mean much. If a story is posted in LW, you can safely assume that a principal character is a wife. Other than that, it's the proverbial box of chocolates---you never know what you're going to get.

OK, sometimes you can tell from the title or subtitle. But often you have to read pretty far into it. If the erotic angle turns out not to be your cup of tea, you get pissed off at the waste of time. I would never do it, but some people (almost always anonymously) then rate the story poorly and flame the author--not because the story was poorly written or unerotic, but because they have a moral or other dislike for the erotic angle. (Funny that there are so many moralists reading stories on this site! Do they also watch porn and then send scolding letters to the producers?)

I've seen speculation that LW was created as a category for stories about truly "loving" wives in traditional marriages, doing hot or even kinky---but not unfaithful---things for their husbands. Occasionally, stories of this type are indeed posted to the LW category. A typical scenario is the wife providing a "special night" for hubby. However, such "literal" LW stories are few and far between. Also, good stories in this vein are often posted in "Erotic Couplings" (or, in the case of newlyweds, "First Time"). "Toys & Masturbation," "Anal," "BDSM" too, when that's the nature of the action.

Slightly farther afield but arguably still literally about "loving" wives are stories about happy but non-traditional/open marriages. The wife loves hubby but is "lovin'" someone else for fun, with hubby's permission (or even encouragement). These are stories about swingers (if the hubby is getting some "strange" too) and voyeurs (if hubby just likes to watch, or hear about it later). Also, you have your threesome stories. Some of these stories focus on the relationship of the married couple, but usually (it seems) they focus on the sex. The latter, I think should be posted under "Group Sex" or "Exhibitionist/Voyeur." Maybe "Lesbian" if the wife has sex with another woman and the husband isn't participating.

A ton of LW stories, ironically, are about wives who carry on with others without hubby's permission. As others have suggested, there ought to be an "Adultery" category for these stories. The wives in these stories run the gamut from manipulative, mean, remorseless, and even psychopathic to just confused, weak, deceived, and ultimately guilt-ridden. The husbands range from tough guys who destroy the wife to weak guys who don't like the adultery but can't or won't do anything about it (these "unhappy cuckholds" are to be distinguished from "happy cuckholds" who encourage and enjoy the wife's affairs). Adultery stories tend to provoke a lot of comments, both from "haters" who express zero-tolerance for any adultery and flame any author whose "wimp" husband doesn't torch the bitch, and from "lovers" who aren't satisfied with anything other than reconciliation and who lecture the "haters" for having too much "male ego" and being too morally rigid. Many of these stories have no sex scenes at all; I think such stories belong in "Non-Erotic" (although sometimes the author is kind enough to tell you up front, "There is no sex in this story!").

Finally, there are stories about wives who have sex with others without hubby's consent but under some sort of durress or coercion. These stories typically involve rape, blackmail, drugs, trickery, or the paranormal/supernatural. When such stories focus mostly on the sex, I think they should be posted under "Nonconsent/reluctance," "Mind Control," or (here's a favorite in October) "Erotic Horror."

I've written an outline of a multi-chaper story that would capture most of the various sub-species of LW, but it's probably too ambitious for someone who hasn't even finished a short story yet!

I prefer cheating wife stories myself and most of the ones I have written involve adultery. I don't know why I like them, maybe it's the forbidden fruit angle. A happily married couple having sex is fine and wonderful, but in a story it just doesn't hold my attention.

Having someone convince a happily married person to stray and then seeing how the cheater deals with it or convince themselves that what they did is not bad is far more interesting and makes a better story for me anyway.

I also admit I do enjoy the negative feedback my stories have generated so far. Like the old roadshow men I believe that the worst thing you can do is be boring. Whether people are satisfied or angry over my stories it doesn't bother me, I know I did something right.

The fact that my stories upset people like nyminus mentioned earlier is an extra bonus. These bozo's can't deal with the fact that people like something they don't, so they want to shut it down and prevent it from being put out there. If I don't like a story, I stop reading and move on. I don't rant and rave and threaten.

not so much the part about which story should go where and categories...took me a while to get what ou guys were saying I had to browse some stories to get the idea..as far as the ACTUAL topic of the thread yeah it makes sense to have sub categories so people can enjoy their brand of kink and avoid the ones that they are squeamish about..somethings are hard to un-read..

Actually, if you're not afraid of feedback, the Loving Wives category is one of the best places to post, if not the best.

The Incest category will get you a lot of hits, but the Loving Wives category will give you lots of votes and comments. Yeah, sure, there are a few unstable men residing there, but everyone knows who they are and you take their same angry comments for what they are.

Perhaps I should qualify my statement.

I think there are principally three categories of LW stories (and frankly I think they should all have separate categories).

Loving wives: These are stories of husband and wife having non-adulterous sex with one another. I think this was the original intention of the LW category (though I may be wrong). I personally don't find this so exciting because I can have sex like this myself any time I want it (within reason).

Cheating wives: These are wives who have sex outside their marriage without the knowledge or consent of their spouse. For some reason this really turns me on. I think it is the idea of sex being so pleasurable that the wife is willing to perform an "evil" act (cheating) in order to get it. It is implicit that it must be awfully good sex to risk their marriage, especially if she continues to do it and escalates the sex to more and more taboo or risky situations. So to turn me on, I need to have the sex be risky - she has to have a chance of being caught by her husband (and a higher chance the better). And the marriage has to be something that is worth having - it has to be something that she doesn't want to lose, so the husband should be a good, strong and loving man.

Cuckolds: These are stories about women who have sex outside marriage with the consent of their husbands. This isn't my thing at all. I think, for me, if the husband approves of the extra-martial sex, then the vow of fidelity isn't really there, so there is not taboo in breaking it. The marriage is safe, so the sex is without risk, and uninteresting.

Of course, this is just my own personal preference.
