The whole world loves us now - except for the guy trying to blow up Dallas Buildings

Maybe he didn't like the architecture?

Nope. He was quoted as saying:
"Millions of people will incur losses," said Smadi, according to the affidavit. "Unemployment, poverty, hunger, and a strike to the head of the government. Don’t forget the psychological impacts on the loss of this beautiful building."

The poor man just needs a hug and some understanding about how wrong it would be to do such things. :rolleyes:

We could teach him the Obama song. That would mellow him out.

WHAT!! :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Gulp.

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

(Think I now need a drink. It's noon somewhere, right. Yep, 3 or 4 breakfast coctails should calm me.)

Naw, we should bomb every country to the stone age that has men of who look like him and follow his religion. And those that survive should be waterboarded and tortured into confessing that they want to do the same thing, and kept in some prison where they'll never get a fair trial. That's the only way to teach these people that they should be in fear and awe of us.

That would put an end to people trying to bomb our buildings. I mean, this guy must have seen what we did to his kind after 9/11. I'm sure that's what stopped him from trying to....

...wait. :rolleyes:

Haven't you heard? Those sorts of things are so...yesterday. Now we have a greater understanding of what motivates these benighted souls to do the things they do. It's all the US's fault for...well, just everything that's wrong in the world. We just need to make these people understand we mean them no harm and they'll leave us alone.

We need to bring our fighting men and women home so they're not hurt in any way, disband the evil CIA, destroy our nukes, open embassies in every country and have lots of parties, lift all restrictions on immigration, buy only products made in America made by union labor and switch to alternative energies so we don't need coal and oil 'cause they pollute.

If we lead by example, the world will follow us. :rolleyes:

You're right. Stupid idea. We should just keep what we've been doing. We've got a few more trillion dollars to spend and it's worked so well...:rolleyes: Come on, TE999. I don't think you're that stupid. You do what works. Period. Stop using old and tired stereotypes to try and make the current administration look like wimps. No one in power is, or has ever, suggested that we "hug" the terrorists or have the U.S. take the blame for everything.

Most of us "liberals" don't want any such thing or think any such thing. We want common sense. And we want people to be realistic. Sometimes, it is our fault, and saying so does a world of good to mending fences--not with extremists like this guy, with with other middle-of-the-road types who want to work things out. And just want to know that we're not going to make up some lie in order to bomb the shit out of them like we did to some other country which, they might have hated, but who's bombing made them worry we'd do the same to them.

In the end, this isn't about the "whole world loving us!" shit. The whole world doesn't love us. That's the point. We don't need more enemies. We need to find ways to make friends, so that when guys like this try to do this, the world says, "That's awful! We're on your side!" Not "Good for him!" Of course, it's hyperbole to say the whole world loves or hates us anyway. In the end, it's not the "World" or any part of the "World" that does this. It's individuals or small groups of individuals. Only on occasion is it countries and if it was a country doing this, we'd know. They'd have, like, declared war or something and probably sent bomber planes rather than one stupid and incompetent individual.

Being realistic, there is no way to ever stop individuals from trying to do crazy things. Even home grown ones waving flags and swearing they serve the good old U.S.A. will try to bomb buildings. So you set up ways to stop the individuals from bombing buildings. Rather than looking at the individuals and deciding that they represent a country.

My point is, stereotypes and hyperbole should not be used to justify bad diplomacy. And if you're trying to be funny, you're not being funny. You're being divisive. And it's painful to read about someone trying to bomb a building, and instead of it bringing Americans together, as it once did, it breaks them farther apart. In the end, this man did not bomb the building. Whatever was in place to stop him, worked. And it worked with this "hugs!" Aministration you hate so much in power. So. Obama has not taken away any city's ability to protect itself from a terrorist bombing--domestic or foreign. So. We won. Or we should have won. But this thread seems intent on snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. No "Go America! we stopped the terrorist!" but rather, "See! Obama isn't tough enough."

Please. :rolleyes: Can't we grow up?

Grow up, indeed. I wasn't being funny, I was being sarcastic. I was responding in a sarcastic fashion to your knee jerk comments about how the previous administration dealt with terrorists in post #7 up there. It got results. Case closed.

I know you 'liberals' (your phrasing) think Obama's the greatest thing since the wheel...goody for you...some of us don't. Denigrating and ridiculing others points of view is childish in the extreme and that happens all the time around here when something is posted you 'liberals' don't agree with. You don't like it, tough.

Try growing up yourself 3113.

I don't know why Mr. Smadi thinks it was necessary for him to try to destroy America.

As the above conversation shows, and as far too many conversations elsewhere demonstrate, America is perfectly capable of destroying itself.
