The wife and I went into the local grocery store this morning. I couldn't help myself, I just had to look in the sales bin at the meat counter. I was more than slightly surprised when I saw several large packages of New York Strip Steaks.

Now we're talking these steaks were absolutely beautiful. Thick and with the thin veins of fat that make beef steaks taste so good. I didn't hesitate when I saw the price. They had been marked down from near $10.00 per pound to $2.00 per pound. I scooped them up and loaded the cart.

When I got them home I loaded the blender with Garlic, Onion, Black Pepper and a bit of Olive Oil. When this was pureed I unpakced the steaks and slathered each of them well with the mix. One steak was set to the side while the others were vacuum packed and tossed in the freezer.

This evening the one steak I kept out was grilled over high heat with plenty of Maple Smoke. It was served along with Garlic Mashed Spuds and steamed Baby Spuds.

Now we're talking this steak was the kind of steak one only dreams of. Juicy and flavorful. It was cooked to just Medium Rare and was so tender it melted in my mouth. Oh man was this good. I can only hope the rest of the ten pounds of steaks are as good.

It's good to be a carnivore.

$2.00 a pound? Hell, you can't buy good hot dogs for that here.

Sometimes you get good deals from the bargain bins. You have to be carefull though and watch the sell by dates. I've seen meats in the bargain bins more than a week beyond their sell by date. Not a good risk to take.

If you keep your eyes open you can often find good deals, you just have to be willing to do the work.

ITA. BTW, I am willing to trade organs for a thick medium rare. My mouth was watering after you described your supper. I want to kidnapp you now ;)

I'm partial to filets myself, but a NY Strip runs a close second. I like that rub you made up. I'll have to try that. :D

Yes, since I live by myself [don't pay any attention to what her husband says, the pathetic jerk is paranoid,] I do my own shopping. No good quality bargain, within sell by date, escapes my careful review.
