Cool!
Nearly 40 years after breaking up, The Beatles are still breaking records for album sales. EMI Group PLC says consumers in North America, Japan and the U.K. bought more than 2.25 million copies of the Fab Four's re-mastered albums in the first five days after their Sept. 9 release. Most of the records were broken for most simultaneous titles in the top-selling charts by a single artist.

On Billboard magazine's pop catalog chart, for example, the band had 16 titles in the top 50, including all 14 re-mastered CDs and two box sets. The Beatles' original U.K. studio albums were re-mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London over four years and released to coincide with the sale of "The Beatles: Rock Band" on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.

Cool! I still have my Beatles albums, but I rarely play them. I much prefer the CD's. Their music really matured when 'Sgt.Pepper' was released. It's still awesome. :D

I'll admit, I've never owned a Beatles album/CD/whatever. I'm not a fan, but I'm not a "non-fan," either. I preferred both John Lennon's and Paul McCartney's music post-Beatles, but recognize their roots and how the Beatles have influenced generations of musicians.

I guess it's good to see that old music ain't necessarily dead. ;)

Heard in a records store many years ago.

"Wow! Did you know Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?"

For those of us who remember what "records" are, this sentence was rather jarring:

...Most of the records were broken...

OT: Anyone interested in counterpoint should listen to the string line in "Something". I get chills just thinking about it, but I'm funny that way.

The "Love" CD, from the Cirque du Soliel show is especially revealing, in that the producers stripped down some of the Beatles songs, revealing how they were made up of parts, sort of like building a song with Legos. BTW, the Cirque du Soleil "Love" show kicks ass, if anyone is in the mood for a Vegas Trip.

While most might not know what 'record albums' are, I would hope they would know what record means in that context.

"Driphoney is the world record holder in typos in a single post on Lit."

Then again, you never know these days . . .

I collect 50s 60s popular music. During the mid to late 60s, the Beatles drove popular music. They produced mainstream stuff, but also took chances and reformed what popular music of the period was all about. They were giants and deserve to again be #1,
