STATEMENT OF STATE’S ATTORNEYS OFFICE FOR BALTIMORE CITY RELATIVE TO THE ALLEGED BALTIMORE ACORN INCIDENT

Baltimore, MD – September 11, 2009 – We have received inquiries from citizens and the media asking whether the Baltimore City State’s Attorneys Office would initiate a criminal investigation for acts allegedly committed at ACORN offices located in Baltimore. The only information received in reference to this alleged criminal behavior was a YouTube video. Upon review by this office, the video appears to be incomplete. In addition, the audio portion could possibly have been obtained in violation of Maryland Law, Annotated Code of Maryland Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article §10-402, which requires two party consent.

If it is determined that the audio portion now being heard on YouTube was illegally obtained, it is also illegal under Maryland Law to willfully use or willfully disclose the content of said audio. The penalty for the unlawful interception, disclosure or use of it is a felony punishable up to 5 years.

Okay, looks like they have some legal trouble.

CNN's Tucker: "ACORN gave CNN a copy of the police complaint." On the September 11 edition of CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight, CNN news correspondent Bill Tucker reported: "ACORN gave CNN a copy of the police complaint filed against the filmmakers In Philadelphia. The filmmakers, James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles are not commenting and Giles was a no-show for an agreed-to interview with CNN."

And it looks like they've been lying about no ACORN offices turning them away and now they are ducking interviews with legitimate news organizations.

And more distortions from the heavily edited videos are emerging.

In a press conference Thursday at ACORN's National City headquarters, Vera said statements he made in the video were taken out of context.

The now-former ACORN worker said he was merely trying to help the pair because he thought they were in danger.

"I never done anything wrong in my life," Vera said. "They destroyed my family."

In the footage filmed in July, filmmaker James O'Keefe and his partner, Hannah Giles, posed as a pimp and prostitute, and asked Vera for housing help.

O'Keefe is heard in the video saying, "I want to buy a house and this is my girlfriend, and she's a prostitute."

Vera said he was told the woman needed to escape her controlling pimp, who wouldn't let her start a new life.

Immediately, Vera said he offered to call the police but the filmmaker quickly stopped him.

"Don't call the police because I'm gonna be a lawyer," O'Keefe said in the video.

After the pair left the building, Vera said he called the National City Police Department.

National City police confirmed that Vera contacted them, but said there was not enough information about the couple to file a formal report.

Vera was also seen in the video asking the woman posing as a prostitute how much she charges.

So what are these "journalists" hiding? Where are the unedited tapes? Why aren't they talking to legitimate press? Why all the discrepancies between what they claim and ACORN workers say?
They thought they were being cute and clever by punking poor people trying to help other poor people. It looks like sooner or later they will have to testify under oath about exactly what happened. That is where the rubber meets the road.

Are you implying that the Congress of the United States was duped into de-funding Acorn based on erroneous youtube videos?

Casualties of war, if.

Until we see all the unedited video and get testimony under oath by all parties involved we have no way of knowing.

Looks like the video stinger has a history of "creative" editing to manipulate what was actually said and taking comments out of context.

“He likes making waves,” Mr. Levitsky added. “But the hidden camera simply shows the truth.”

Not everyone among Mr. O’Keefe’s acquaintances agrees. Liz Farkas, a Rutgers student who called Mr. O’Keefe “a nice guy and a loyal friend,” said she grew disillusioned after he asked her to help edit the script of a Planned Parenthood sting.

“It was snippets to make the Planned Parenthood nurse look bad,” Ms. Farkas said. “I said: ‘It has no context. You’re just cherry-picking the nurse’s answers.’ He said, ‘Okay’ — and then he just ran it.”

I do hope they prosecute the two people for illegally audio taping on private property.

They certainly broke the law.

They will have NO trouble finding good legal representation.

By a whore attorney looking for a name.

How ironic.

I suggest Ms Giles will be looking over her shoulderm for a very long long time and thats extremely satisfying to me.

Wait till she ends up on youtube blowing some cock.....lol

She has to be suspect of every person and every thing she ever does for her whole life now because she made herself a target.

Rupert Murdoch has to be some kind of mysoginist I swear.

These are snotty rich kids taking advantage of unsophisticated poor people. I don't think they thought it through too well though. They made a big splash with the sensational video footage but now they are going to have to answer some uncomfortable questions. Not the softballs that Fox News lobs at them but from attorneys representing the District Attorney's Office, lawyers hired by ACORN, and lawyers hired by individual ACORN workers. I don't think they'll be amused by cute, snarky answers by smug rich kids.

You're right. No shortage of lawyers who want to make a name for themselves in a high profile case would miss an opportunity to represent these workers who have been maligned on video tape.

I hope they set an example with them, but acorn still has a lot of internal problems.

Theres also a chance these dumb kids were used by Fox News who obviously had a hand in this but knew they couldn't use a regular employee without being liable themselves.

Fox news is more like a wood chipper than a news channel and they promote a total disrespect for women.....hell the women on set cant even move their skirts are so short, and thats the dress code.

God you're full of shit.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

How so.

That fox put these kids up to it?

or the women on fox's skirts are too short.

Not that I dont mind some good leg but comon. You think they choose all by themselves to wear fuck me pumps and miniskirts to the point they have to hold their hands in their laps to cover their gash?

I'm not a defender of ACORN, however in any job I've ever had I've never received training for outlandish scenarios that would never happen in real life, such as pimps and hookers walking into your work place requesting whore house advice.

In have to believe to some extent the workers knew it was a scam. Hell the guy was wearing a fur coat and purple hat....lol

Pimps dont dress like that since the seventies.

There seems to be lots of creative editing. The in San Diego for example was asked by the girl several times, (paraphrasing)"How much do you think I charge", until the guy finally say, "Okay how much do you charge?". But then the video is edited to look like the guy came up with that question on his own.

It also seems that they gave the impression to the workers that they were trying to escape from prostitution but edited the tape to where that component of the conversation is missing leaving the impression that prostitution being discussed was ongoing and desired.

I have not been following the ACRON thing too much because of the huge partisan pie fight which results in muddy waters. However, I am hoping a full and fair investigation into the matter will bring the reality to light.

And who financed it, and paid them for the tapes.

Follow the money.

Im sure fox news was smart enough to funnel the cash through one of their bogus think tank outfits like the heratige foundation or similar.

I am not sure where the money went, who financed what, or where things may have been funneled. Hopefully, the investigation will uncover it. Also, if prostitution has really been happening, then those responsible should pay a price. Everybody deserves a fair shot under the law.

As I have said over and over I am not a supporter of ACORN. But this thing smells. I am not taking these videos at face value.

I understand, from where I sit, the very loud punditry bothers me in this whole deal. I am glad the President supports getting this thing under investigation.

There was no prostitution or allegations of prostitution. That's the problem. The prostitution angle was made up by the hidden camera operators.

I support what organizations like ACORN are trying to do. Having said that, it would appear that there is very poor management oversight at a number of ACORN branches, and the conservitards passing themselves off as "pimps" and "Hoes" were able to successfully exploit these shortcomings.

Heh, everywhere, it is pimps and hoes all over the news. Perhaps it is not true, but with the echo chamber of sensationalism, shit like that sticks.
