At a loss for the meaning of ratings...

My first story just published today and am so excited about that, however I am real unsure about how the whole rating system works. When I check my submissions page it lists the number of view and the number of votes (btw, what does that mean? What are they voting on?) and it also lists a ranking of 4.75. Is that good? I guess Im just unsure as to the scale that is used when ranking. Is it a 1-10 scale? I am including the link to my story and would really really love to get some feedback on it, especially from authors that have been doing this for awhile.

Thanks so much for your help!!

1-5 is the rating system. They are voting on how well they liked the story. 1=hated it and 5= loved it, but don't get so giddy at first because stories tend to jump around in the voting the first few days. Plus, you'll have those who will give only 1 star because that s what they do best.
The moderators have installed a lil program that keeps track of any abnormal amounts of 1's or 5's for a story and will sweep them out.

The views are the number of times your story has been read, or at least they started to and might have stopped and left it because they didn't like it. The votes have been explained already. If your story gets a rating of 4.50 with 10 or more votes, it will get a red "H" beside it, meaning it's hot (People love it). If you can maintain a rating of 4.80 and 140+ votes you can make the top list for that category. Hope that helps:cool:

Not to be critical, but that's not quite accurate. "Views" is not how many times your story has been read. it's how many times it's been accessed. Even if the person reads two paragraphs, gives up and hits "Back", that counts as a "view" even though your story has not actually been consumed.

You see this most often in multi-chapter stories. The first thing I ever posted here was five chapters. Chapter 1 has literally twice as many views as Chapter 2, and more-than-twice as many votes. With my other multi-chapter story, it's the first two entries that have twice as many views. But the point is, view numbers drop off: The Reader sees that s/he isn't interested in this story, and simply ignores the later chapters. *shrug*

Long story short: the "views" number is over-large, possibly as much as double. Take it with a grain of salt. :)

Ummm isn't that what I said. Not to be too critical. BTW, I still think you're an absolute angel CWatson:cool:

After all the bullshit is said. Rating are pretty meaningless. You don't get paid shit for them.

True enough, but we sad pr0n writers gotta fluff our egos somehow. :D

I think HE is too!

Um, I guess there are boy angels, but CW, you don't play fair. I took a page out of your book.
