i don't suppose there are any other football fans among the HT regulars? and by "football" i do mean american rules football, employing an elongated ball, rather than the vastly more globally popular sport known in the US as "soccer". :>

i'm looking forward to the preseason game tonight between my giants and carolina. :D

*raises hand*

I'm more of a college football fan, but I do enjoy the NFL as well. :)

What's not to like, 22 mostly toned and tight men wearing spandex running around and jumping. I drool alot on Sunday's. :D

so i was really excited that the giants and panthers decided to give me a birthday present in the form of their first preseason game last night. it was a lot of fun to watch, as a giants fan. :D

do you guys have favorite teams?

ed

I grew up in a Cleveland Browns household, but I'll watch pretty much whatever games are on TV. I'll root for the Ohio team that sucks less, but that's as far as it goes. :D

I like to see how players I followed in college do in the NFL.

Baltimore. It's a combo platter of reasoning - the guy who first introduced me to football was a Ravens fan (from Baltimore, no less), I enjoyed playing as them in Madden '06, I like Edgar Allen Poe, defense amused me more than offense so Baltimore was a perfect fit and so on, so forth.

San Diego Chargers fan here. Hoping to finally get over the Super Bowl hump and win the big one. I'm generally a freak about all sports, discounting golf.

mistersir: what's your view on rex ryan and his move to the jets?

username in use: i like your handle! :D how do you like your team after 2 preseason games?

me, i'm irritated at the giants' really poor showing against chicago but am hoping they redeem themselves saturday against the jets.

Oh good grief it's the pre season.

I mean hello I watch football for the men in tights and I still know preseason doesn't mean diddly squat. Take the cardinals for instance, I'm in AZ so any games are pretty much gonna be cardinals, they are not playing that well, the only difference between now and making to the superbowl team is new offensive and defensive coordinators and no Edgerrin James. Well however you spell that, I do hope I got it right.

Or heck, take a look at the Raiders, they went 4-0 in the preseason a couple years ago and ended up having a 6-10 record wasn't it?

What are your "views" on the Brett Favre crap?
Packers > Retire > Jets > Retire > Vickings > Retire > Vickings.

He's an awesome quarterback but man...RETIRE ALREADY!

i used to be a big brett favre fan. each unretirement kills another part of my respect for him.

I laughed when Chad Pennington and the Dolphins ruined the Jets' playoff chances last season, since the Jets got rid of Pennington to get Favre.

I am a Panthers fan....hopefully Jake will keep his temper in check and we can make another run.....I prefer college ball though

I'm liking what I'm seeing. The pass protection should pick up as our rookie guard learns on the fly. Im expecting LT and Gates to bounce back and Rivers gets better every year. Also expecting the pass defense to get better. I'm liking our draft pick at safety, big hitter very instinctive. Maybe he'll finally give us a presence in the middle of the field.

As for Brett Favre? I think the man should retire but as a human being he's allowed to make his own choices. If you've never waffled on a decision than you can poke fun at him all you want but the fact is that if the media hadn't shoved the story down our throats for two years, we wouldn't care so much. I can understand where he's coming from. When your part of a team, it's hard to walk away from it and you continually -ache- from wanting to be out there again whether it's football or a job. For example I still miss roofing. I don't miss the 9 hours of intensely hot and back breaking work, but I miss my crew and the feeling of sweating and bleeding and working our asses off for a common goal.

mistersir: what's your view on rex ryan and his move to the jets?

Not particularly bothered. I wasn't around for Marvin Lewis' departure, but by all accounts the switch didn't have a big effect on the defense because the players were still the same and I question how much any coordinator can really improve or detract from a team with the same core. Our bigger problem would be the other move to the Jets, somebody's gotta fill in for Bart Scott and hopefully it can be one of our rookies/sophs. I like Tavares Gooden for it, but I'm not fussy.

eilan: honestly, i had to giggle about that one, myself. :>

username: rivers showed us all something in his playing through being hurt. more importantly, he showed it to his teammates, and you just know that o-line is blocking and pulling harder for him. i'm interested to see how LT plays this year, too--how's he looked so far, and in camp?

mistersir: true, scott's a big presence, and it seems the other defensive jets players are really looking up to him from what i see.

me, i'm hoping that i see rookie ramses barden do his thing. i honestly think he'll have bigger impact this season than 1st rounder hakeem nicks.

yes im another american football fan and strangly im from the uk. im a denver broncos fan and have been for many years. Think the game is amazing. Also a boston red socks fan and liverpool fc fan.

God Rivers won me over with that game. That was a tough season for him because Norv Turner was shifting the team away from Martyball and going for a more passing-oriented offense. But the poise and toughness that he showed in the Patriots playoff game, for the most part tearing up a New England secondary that hadn't broken all year on one leg...wow.

As for LT? It's hard to say. He's usually a slow starter so it's always hard to judge him, don't know why he didn't play in the preseason before. Even when he had that MONSTROUS year where everytime he touched the ball was either a guaranteed 5 yards/touchdown, he didn't get going until somewhere around the middle of the season.

Anyway our offense isn't the problem, except maybe a true No. 1 wide receiver. I've always thought our problem to be our extremely soft middle of the field on defense. Tim Dobbins and Stephen Cooper are solid players but nothing to be feared. Eric Weddle/Clinton Hart/Steve Gregory/Paul Oliver/God knows who else we've put at safety, just aren't doing anything to make other quarterbacks think, even for a second, to throw over the middle.

My two cents on the Giants:

Why the big deal about receivers? Yes Plaxico(that idiot), was a major part of the passing offense, but he was more of a decoy that drew attention than an actual viable downfield threat something I thought that Hixon did extremely well other than his few dropped passes. Which should improve with time. All the other receivers are solid. I think the problem was more the suddenness of Plaxico's departure and Eli Mannings failure to compensate by finding another hot read when feeling the pressure.

If I remember correctly, another team just won a super bowl(or two), without a true No.1 receiver and won instead with the frenetic pass-rush generated by the front seven and steady, efficient, quarterback play.

yah!!!!!! Packer fan here. He is a diva and likes the spotlight. Once the Vikings implode, he might realize he is done. That might be sooner than later, see as though there are alot of players that hate him and alot of players that really hate him! Hpw can you say you are staying retired then less than 3 weeks later sign to play??

He's ruining his reputation with that crap.
It would be hard, having a career and a lifestyle he lived for so long, to give it up and just retire. Being pulled and pushed both ways has to be difficult. But still - make up your mind, dont drag it out.

Small digression...

I've got tickets for the Bucs vs Patriots game!! <does happy dance>
