I'm just wondering, does the description tag helps make your story look better? Because, when I look at stories, I rarely look at the description tag, but my friend begs to differ, as he always zero in on the description before reading.

What is your opinion?

It's not nice to make your friend beg. Bad, bad mid-level playing card.

As for stories on the new list, description comes after author and category for me. If the tag is really, really well done, it might get me to read the story. If it's poorly done, there's probably no hope for the writer.

Use the Tag!

Absolutely tags matter. People will usually look for category first. So, it's their fav category. Then title. But many will then glance at the tag. Don't ignore it just because YOU don't look at it. It is often the make-or-break final decision maker.

So, let's say your story is going to appear in the Loving Wives category. Someone who searches for stories in that category fixes on it. Title "Cheating Wife"--okay, you've got the reader's interest, Tag, "She goes shopping." Hm....does that intrigue your reader enough to want to spend his lunch hour reading that instead of one of the other five new stories also in Loving Wives? Likely, he'd be more intrigued if it was titled "Gone Shopping" and the tag said: "Four men to cheat with, and they're on sale!"

You don't need a brilliant tag, but this is the one-half-sentence chance you've been given to lure in that reader. A ton of stories get posted daily. You might as well use all you've been given to snag reader interest.

I definitely read the tags to decide if a story is what I am looking for or not. I have certain preferences in stories that I read, and I can usually tell if a story fits the bill or not by a good description.

I have never looked at the tags on stories and I find them a nuisance to put on mine. But I don't doubt there are some who find them useful.
