I think that was one of the thrusts of the article, that the well-heeled Reps used the social conservatism of the blue-color classes as a route to power. Had the Dems not been so silly as to decide that gun control was their issue of the moment, it probably would have never happened. Now that the national party leaders have concluded that gun control is a good way to get beat up and have completely retreated from it, there really isn't any reason for those of us in the cloth cap world (or at least viewpoint) to even consider voting for the GOP.

I'm sure they do...and how many of them became better off depending on the government for their continued existence...I'm guessin' hard work was the key to their success. So called Democratic 'compassion' has wrecked more lives, destroyed more families and devastated more cities than any war...except the one on Poverty of course.

Engendering class warfare as a way to gin up votes is outrageous...but it works for the Dems and still does. As long as people have someone else to blame for their own problems, the Democratic Party with it's pseudo-fairness, false compassion and 'let's get even with those rich bastards' mantra will flourish.

Wanna discuss the Republicans next? They're equally phony, just less blatant.

For quite a while, including the most recent campaign, there has been a thoroughly patronizing attitude by the Democratic leadership towards rural America. Remember Pennsylvania? I'm hoping that they have learned not to be so snide but I fear that it may only be temporary. The hard-core individualism of the countryside must rankle the white wine and brie crew inside the Beltway.

We don't speak different languages, we have different ways of looking at things. I don't get my knickers in a twist every time someone says something I disagree with...I may challenge them, however...I may make fun of them...I may even ignore them...it depends on my mood.

Getting all in a lather about something that I can do virtually nothing about to me is a waste of time. Likewise trying to bring someone around to my way of thinking by inferring (or implying) they're ignorant or stupid. There's puhlenty of that around here.

I don't like bullies, I don't like snobs, I don't like pseudo-intellectuals, I don't like people who are so goddam sure they're right that every word that falls from their lips is golden, I don't like vacuous nitwits who belabor a point to the point of absurdity, I don't like opinionated twits who when their cherished ethos is challenged attack a persons character, misspellings or grammatical errors as a way of rebuttal.

I like to write stories, goof around, visit with my friends and generally have a good time around here. Occasionally, I wander into one of these quagmires and regret it immediately...but once I am in I don't back down either.

I'll have to get back to you on that Democrat/class warfare thing. That could be the topic of a whole nuther thread.

TE, actually San Diego IS "a veritable paragon of diversity." It historically votes heavily Republican while, at the same time, hosts next week's Pride Festival, which is the biggest civic event of the year (and one of the largest in the US).

Also, you've got to realize that most of us don't include LA as part of Southern California. It's kind of considered to be on a planet of its own. (which is why San Diegans thank gawd daily for Camp Pendleton and 100,000 Marines being between them and us!!!!)

BTW, you can also Rhianna, Sara Ramirez, Whoopi Goldberg, and Mario Lopez to your list.

People in Northern CA, especially the Bay Area, think of Los Angeles and Southern CA as being synonymous, and that San Diego is a suberb of L. A.

I think challenging someone's character is far more serious than challenging their grammar. I think challenging someone's mispellings is pissy and childish-- of course, I've been known to be pissy or childish more than once! But yeah-- I know some people here who tend to stand in a yellow puddle, almost all of the time. Some of them lean left, some lean right. I don't think bullies are limited to the left. I don't think a dislike for ad hom insults is snobbish. I don't think the pseudo-intellectuals get to keep their image of themselves for too long-- we have several of the genuine thing here.
