I have two stories already accepted.
I also have two that have been rejected. My problem is that the reasons for rejection don't seem to apply. The problem is compounded by the fact that I can't reach the Literotica help desk (I've tried four times).
Does anyone have a suggestion?
Many thanks, Collectable

Like computer diagnostics, Literotica's tend to be a bit generalized and sometimes completely non-applicable.

You may need to send Laurel a PM (NOT an email) but it may be possible to diagnose the problem without bothering her. Have you checked the "boiler plates" such as length, taboos, etc ? Possibly you're using dialect or other variant spellings or usages that are lighting up the spelling/grammar checker?

If you can't find the problem, quite possibly a v.e. can disgnose it. I'm willing to take a shot, but I have two short stories and a full-length novel waiting for me, so it could take me a few days to get to your story. Possibly someone here has a few free minutes?

Dear Copycarver,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
The boilerplate doesn't seem to apply.
How do I send Laurel a PM (don't know what this is) instead of an e-mail? What address?
Appreciate your help.

A PM is a private message, which you can send to any Literotica member. In general a PM is faster and more reliable than sending a email.

There is a more direct process available, but the easiest way to send Laurel a PM is:
1) Look near the top of this screen for the "Member List" and click on it
2) Click on "Search Members" and type Laurel into the field
3) It may take a moment, but eventually you'll be taken to Laurel's (a.k.a. "Kitty Mama's") Profile Page
4) Under the "Contact info" sub-heading, you'll see, "Send a Private Message to Laurel"
5) Click on that link and you'll get the "Send New Private Message Page" with plenty of space to explain the problem to her.

Be certain also that you have activated your own PM function before you start. If not, it won't work in either direction.

A quicker way would be to just click this link:

http://forum.literotica.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=7

But as CC said, make sure you allow yourself to receive Private Messages. In order to do that, click on USER CP near the top of your page, then click Edit Options on the left.

From there look for the heading "Messaging & Notification" and the third "sub" heading should be "Private Messages" and put a check in the box next to "Enable Private Messaging"

Read through the other options there and decide if you want them nor not. Once you've made your choices, click "Save Changes" at the very bottom of the page.

It's hard to give suggestions on what you should to without knowing what the rejection messages were.

Was there a link that would take you to an explanation? Post the reason for rejection and it'd be easier for you to get the help you need. :)

As you have no doubt deduced, yours is the novel I mentioned earlier. I'm working on it and should have the markups back to you by Saturday.

Judging by the 40 pages I've completed, you have a winner--excellent plot, characters, and pacing, and very few tweaks needed.

Rejections

I used to have trouble with rejections as well, but I lost some weight, got in shape and now things are fine.

Cool! I look forward to getting it back from you. Thanks for your help!

Rejection!!!

I've been having a hard time with my first rejection. I believe I understand why it happened, and what I need to do to fix it, but the rejection notice says that I need to have a Volunteer Editor look it over before I resubmit.

I found this to be a good idea, since I've never used an editor before, and the thought of getting some input and maybe a suggestion or two prior to throwing it out there for all to see, was intriguing.

My problem is that while I've unleashed a veritable electronic snowstorm of emails to people who have listed themselves as Volunteer Editors, and have not received one reply. I have been picky, disregarding people who only list spell checking and grammar (though I need those) and lean more toward those who indicate thematic and character assessment as well.

Any suggestions on how I might locate an editor? Any volunteers?

yeah, the volunteer editor program here needs a lot of work. i've done the same thing myself in the past and had the same result.

or worse, actually recieved a response only to have the editor go on vacation for a month without saying one fucking word about it to me.

now i edit my own stuff which is a pain and i miss a lot of stuff, but it's better than dealing with someone who doesn't care one way or the other about your story actually getting done.

Your best bet is to look at the top of this forum for the "Active Editors: July 2009" thread. Usually any of the active VEs will chime in there. I'd offer, but I've currently got too much going on with helping a friend edit her first story for publication and I''m also working on a couple of my own.

... but the rejection notice says that I need to have a Volunteer Editor look it over before I resubmit. ...
This is not literally true. If you can correct he problem yourself the powers-that-be have no way of knowing if you used an editor or not.

... emails to people who have listed themselves as Volunteer Editors, and have not received one reply. ...
The official VE list is effectively defunct for the second time this century. That is because there is no check on availability. Other boards ask once a month if an editor is still available and drop the name off the list if there is no reply for a preset time. Thus there are many inactive editors on the list here. My old account (snooper), for example, points to an invalid email address and there is no way to recover it.
