I seem to remember that Wizard of Oz was actually about the plight of the American farmer and their goal to have us on a gold and silver standard as opposed to a gold alone. Only time in US history to my knowledge we were a three party system.

Sigh, I get so depressed when I listen to republican senators on C-Span, it's not so much their beliefs or goals it's that they're having trouble coming to terms with the changing world. They've become a old party, it's a primary reason the democrats beat them so easily, they knew how to campaign in a digital world. Frankly I would like to see the US become a three party country, I know it'd massively slow down a already turgid government but i wish politics weren't so polarized.

Not a lot to the US economy, but the price of gold would probably skyrocket. That was the whole point of Goldfinger's scheme - drive up the price of gold to make his supplies so much more valuable.
