Getting back in the swing of poetry

I have been offline for several months, now back, for a while at least.

In that time I have not had any brain cells left to write poetry, although it has been buzzing around my head.

I can't seem to get back into the flow of putting half decent poems back on paper.

What do other people do when this happens?

Its not so much writers block, more being able to write something I am happy with

Well, is it possible that you're actually writing good poetry but you just aren't satisfied? We all get in moods when nothing we produce is good enough.

Thank you.

You are right I don't think its good enough, but that doesn't mean it is good, it may mean it really isn't good enough!

I have submitted a couple of poems and will see the reaction, its always easier to learn from another persons point of view.

I'm gradually learning that everything doesn't need to be polished for months before being shared.

I'll check out your new poems when they're online and leave you some feedback. :)

And if you're participating in a challenge you have deadlines.
Sometimes the quick stuff is good, if you're in sync with your muse,
at others not so much.

We do have some threads for work on poetry which you could try, or just submit it and hope for feedback.
I too will take a look at your poems and provide feedback.

Thank you, I need to write more, and read more.

EO Thank you for your feedback, it helps to see it though other peoples eyes, I can see how I lost the thread a little.

WE thanks for the offer of feedback, I admire your writing and appreciate you taking time to read my poems

amen, Eve!

I'm in that spot right now, right along with you. So I have been going back and editing my prior work. That has helped me with my blockage and maybe it will lead to something new.

Good luck, shy slave, it will come back if it hasn't already.

I'm kind of in a poetry funk right now. I'm not at my best. Too busy with other things, I guess. I'd love to have a week all alone and just write "good" poetry. Oh well, what can we do? Just keep trying, keep looking for inspiration. Maybe try something new and outrageous and see how it works out. hmm...

The poetry challenge made me get my brain out and gave it a shake I didn't want to start off at a rattling pace then lose momentum and cave in. A good kick up the backside was what I needed lol I've found it an enormous confidence booster especially after getting so ill which drained me dry.

It helped me too, along wih comments from the folks here.

Thank you for all your advice both here and on the comments part of my poems.

I am now playing with one of them to give it form.

I have been reading up, experiementing and generally taking time to try new things.

Of course I may not actually manage to give it form, but I have learnt alot from trying.

I'm glad to hear you're trying different things, working on it.
There may be a fortunate few for whom poetry is automatic, but most of us need practice. Edison said 'genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration'.
