Did I sprain my wrist, or is it worse than that?

And is it worth it to me to go to a critical care clinic to find out?

I do not have health insurance.

The answer is no. I can't add to my debt for the sake of knowing. And all the joints move-- painfully, but freely.

Tylenol and an Ace bandage.

I can't do table saw work alone any more, I guess.

I've posted this before.

About 1995 Tampa residents passed a penny sales tax to fund healthcare for people without insurance or Medicaid. Clinics were opened all over town. All you needed was to go to the clinic however you could get there. The clinics looked at all the private emergency care clinics. If they couldnt patch you up they sent you to where they could help you. Dental was included. No charge.

I ran into all kinds of people living in cars and campers and tents with acute problems like Stella's, and I sent them to the clinics. No charge.

But our great experiment in diversity damn near bankrupted the regions primary trauma & burn center, and the politicians gutted the clinics to bailout the major hospital. The new hospital management agreed to treat the working poor for free, but soon tossed them out the door. The penny tax was quietly shifted to fund the hospital.

If you lay off it (really lay off it) and it hurts like a bitch in a week or more then you should probably go in.

I broke my ankle once and thought it was a sprain, but...

Yep. And I refund my customers their money, insult to injury!

I saw a bus ad for freelancers union which is moving into California, but they only have group health contracts in New York as of yet...

Just keep a very close eye on it. Any sudden swelling of increase in pain level needs to be looked at.
Hope it heals itself, I know all about the lack of insurance. :(

For about $10, you can get a wrist splint at any pharmacy. It will keep the wrist at the perfect angle and leave the fingers free. That and some aspirin or ibuprofin to keep the swelling in check should set you right in a week or so.

Don't forget lots and lots of ice!

And dammit, I can't manage the buckles on my harness just now! can you help? :catroar:

With the buckles? Somehow I don't think so. However, you can always bring the wood over here, you know. At least you will be come next Tues. The cub and I are off to D.C. to redo daughter's basement floor. We'll be back Monday evening.

(only here for a lustful semi stalk of Stella)

Oh and I would offer to kiss your boo-boo but you are much too far away.

yes... and other parts of me want your kisses even more than my stupid, attention-hogging, boo-boo. They even offer return kisses!

The wrist essentially 'floats' on a double row of small short bones, called carpals. If you have broken a carpal bone, you have what's known in the medical profession as a problem. The wrist would then need to be more or less immobilized, until the carpal bone heals. Even after a carpal bone heals, it may not align perfectly again and you'll have a grating sensation when you move that wrist.

Spotters we got in plenty . . . or at least in pair. Give me a holler when you're ready to rip. To sweeten the deal, come November, I'll have a Austrian Jointer/planer combination machine. That way just about all operations can be done without leaving the shop. It's getting exciting, here.

Yeah, I can't tell yet. I do know that I can't even pick up a shirt on a hanger right now. Or move my laptop off my lap.

(a piece of 8/4 Cherry wood slammed back at me out of the tablesaw. It hit me on the middle joint of my pointer finger, which is bruised, and hyper-extended my wrist from the in- to the out-side. So, yeah. could have fractured something.)

I was a boxer. A guy I met during that time who fractured a carpal bone [x-ray.] He told me that, by the next morning, he couldn't even lift his hand off the bed. He had to use the other hand to lift the injured one. If you get to that stage, you definitely need to see a doctor who specializes in the wrist. JMHO.

Can I insert a wiseass comment about you working with a cherry here? :D
heh heh, smartypants :D

Noted, by gum!
