New here, seeking advice on Categories for a Story

Greetings all,

I'm relatively new here. I've written two stories that have been posted ( Every Man's Fantasy and Bastard). I'm working on another, which will be in two parts and I'm not sure which Category or Categories are right. I'm hoping to get some advice.

The first part involves the narrator spanking and fingering an ex-girlfriend. The second involves the narrator, his ex and his fiancee in a threesome.

So, Part Two is pretty obviously Group Sex, but Part One isn't. It might be BDSM but I think it's to "mild" for that. I'm also not sure if it's a good idea of put a two part story under two different categories. If it's not, which category should I use.

Thanks for any tips to the clueless noob.

When in doubt . . . Erotic Couplings includes any two person heterosexual story that you can't put anywhere else.

It's the readers. Some fans of that category are the nastiest collection of trolls on the site. While a few will give you a compliment now and again, there is a strange tendency among them to treat your fiction as real life and abuse you mightily for writing it down. It's . . . odd, to say the least.

I made the mistake of posting something early on to Loving Wives and got roasted. Really nasty, personal stuff, too. I removed it and reposted it under Erotic Couplings and lo! it was amazing how much the story had improved in a week.

I really don't know what it is, but there are some nasty, sad-ass motherfuckers out there reading Loving Wives. Go figure....

Yikes! I had a couple of story ideas I probably would have put there, but I guess Erotic Coupling it is. Thanks all for the warning.

Hi, Lionheart, and welcome to Lit. and the AH in particular. :)

The second story has to be Group Sex and the first one should probably go into BDSM. If it's about a woman whose enjoyment of sex is enhanced by being spanked, that would be the place for it. If it is about some guy who gets his kicks by inflicting pain on unwilling women, it should also go there, but be prepared to be bombed without mercy. If the spanking is incidental and unrelated to the sex, then E/C. I don't know how that would happen, but it probably could.

ETA: Sometimes, just for the hell of it, I put a story in LW just to read the screams of outraged trolls. One of therse was "Satisfying Emily"

I also want to add: No matter what category you post in, there will probably be trolls there to savage it.

Trolls are a sad fact of the internet. From time to time I've posted nude pics of my wife on a website where one does such things. I am always amazed by the number of lame asses who feel the need to spew venom at a beautiful naked woman. After the first few though, we stopped being bothered by it.

That's the only attitude to have. Just sit back and laugh at the stupid comments and don't take any of it seriously and you'll be good to go. You have to learn to have a thick skin as an author.

Loving Wives is a gas to post in if you really don't care about your score and like to laugh at all the assholes who hang out there to read what you write, get off on what you write and then leave a comment about how your wife will be a disease ridden slut with no self respect. They will also call you a girlyman for not kicking her out of the house.

Go read some of the comments on my Loving Wives stories. You'll laugh you ass off.

He's right. Some trolls seem to have the idea that stories we post are somehow autobiographical, even when written in third person.

I think I will write a story about a slut wife, just for the reaction. The title will be, of course: "The Slut Wife."

You may have to be little more subtle, I don't know if they read those titled as being about slut wives and wimpy husbands.

I like to fake them out a little with titles like - Party Favor and Not Again.

Spanking could also go in the Fetish category if the story leans that way.

Also, it's fine to put different chapters in different categories. The readers seem to want to know what they're in for.

Maybe I can call it something like "John's Slutty Wife" and, after he brings her breakfast in bed and leaves for work, she goes out fucking every guy she can. Maybe a few women too.

It's such an ironic name for that category. It really ought to be called "Stories for Men who Hate Women." :(

Or "Stories for Men Who Are so Insecure They Need to Watch Their Wives Every Move", perhaps

I don't think either name would fit exactly. The stories in the category vary from the one I mentioned earlier, "John's Slutty Wife," to stories of swingers to stories of women who cheat because their men do.

They are still read and commented on by men who hate women, no matter what the scenario of the story is.

You might not write about John's slutty wife from a position of misogyny, but it will be read from that viewpoint, yanno?

I've written about promiscuous couples-- but I didn't put the story in that category. I don't write my women to be hated-- or my men either!

Dead right! I want my characters to be as desirable to the reader as they are to each other . . . or to me, for that matter.

Why would either of you restrict yourself that way? Most of my stories are about fun sex, with everybody liking each other, but I have had a few villains in my stories. If readers hate these people, I appreciate it and consider their hatred to be high praise.
