About Using Models to Portray Characters

Hello everyone, new to the site.

I'm also new to this whole erotica writing thing. One thing I just thought of is using pictures of a busty model and use her picture to portray a female character in my piece of literature.

Only one problem... not only can i not post pictures with my stories when I publish them but can't the person sue me for that? I mean- it's their pic but they have it out on the 'net for the world to see and use...

I do want as many people to see my work as possible so I will still post my work here. But it would be really cool if I can post little pictures in between segments in the story. To elaborate, I'll give an example... And I just about doing this too.

There would be a picture that I like and it would be like three pictures of the same busty woman, so I would gather those pictures in a word document and write a story around that.

It's always found easier to actually visually see something rather than to read it as a story anyway.

When writing, do any of you suffer Writer's Block? Not knowing what to write next? It happens to me a lot and it's annoying! I've only been able to finish one story because of it!

BTW- that one story is posted and is STILL pending despite sending it yesterday

If you use a photo of a model, you either need to be able to furnish a link to a public domain photo or you need to have a model release. You're not allowed to just use someone's photo and Laura and/or Manu will remind you of that. You can draw a picture of a model, but if you draw like I do, DON'T!

We're writers here. You don't need to use pictures, use words. JMHO.

R. Richard has given you good advice, but if you absolutely have to add pictures or drawings, post your stories in the "Illustrated" category. That's what it's for.

If you want to repost an existing picture of a model, it's not the model who you need to get a release from, but the copyright holder for the photo (who may or may not even be able to give permission depending on the permissions deal they have).

You also have to submit a word doc that has the photo embedded where you what it to show in the story to have the picture included.

If you own the photo, in other words you took it, then you can use it however you wish. But you better have a the proper paper work stating the she is over eighteen and posing of her own free will, etc.

All good advice given above, and something else: A writer's first submission to Lit may take upwards of a week, maybe longer, before it is approved. The reason for this is that Lit does not allow certain content (bestiality, snuff, excessive violence, or sex with minors) and first submissions are typically very closely scrutinized.

One other thought--don't click on the "Pending" link for your story. My understanding is that every time you do, your story goes back to the bottom of the submissions pile.

Actually, that's the worst way to submit an Illustrated Story. Extracting th eimages from a Word file is a pain in the butt and doesn't provide a marker for the image when the text is converted to ASCII/HTML.

The best way is to upload the illustrations as attachments to the Forum (or some other online storage accessible by the editors). Put the link to the attachments where the picture should appear and in the comments field for easy access to transfer them to Lit's illustrated story folder.

From an authorly perspective, using images makes your task more difficult rather than less difficult -- you still have to describe the person in the text of the story but with an image, your description has to actually match an objective presentation. There is a temptation for novice writers to use a shortcut to describe someone by comparing them to a celebrity or picture but such shortcuts are only useful for "Barbie and Ken" characters with no individuality or personality -- and do little-to-nothing to help you learn to create and describe characters that do possess individuality and personality.

Start a blog...post pictures there...refer to pics in story...then place your blog in your contact panel on your control page...works for me...

You would be amazed [disgusted? outraged?] at the number of times that the text and the image don't match. The blonde lady in the image is described as 'a dark haired temptress' in the story. The 'slim, agile warrior' in the story appears as Mr. Olympia's more muscular brother.

Not really, I don't read the Illustrated Stories here -- because the few I have read in the past were pretty much totally independent of the images posted with them; almost as if the pictures were mislinked, but that would require an extraordinary amount of coincidence or incompetence for every story I looked at to have the wrong images.
