Your Next Vacation

I've travelled a lot in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, and though I really like it, I have a special connection with the wildernesses of the continental U.S.

This year's month-long 10,000 mile road trip across the U.S. will be poignant as it will coincide with a break-up of a twenty-three year marriage. So as I drive the empty blacktops the silent skies will speak to me of the ultimate isolation of man, while my 16 year old son son Dan will navigate and play his Nintendo DS. I look forward to every mile.

I want my next "real" vacation (not just visiting friends or family) to be to Hawaii. I haven't been, and watching LOST every week is like a huge commercial for the islands.

A word of advice. When in Hawai'i, don't attempt to visit the Arizona memorial and the Punchbowl on the same day. It's serious emotional overload, especially for a vet.

On the other hand, if a restaurant called Auntie Pesto's is still in business it has the best Italian food in the Pacific.

Sounds awesome. :rose:

I just wish it wasn't going to be so damn hot everywhere -- but my son couldn't take a whole month off Easter time so June/July it has to be. It will be the longest vacation I've had for thirty years

I want to go to Egypt, but I can tell you that I am not going there as they kill all their pigs and detain British tourist. I think them a bit overboard on the Swine Flu scenario. However, I think we might buzz down to Lisboa and then float on over to Morocco. Where will you go for your next vacation?

If you're 'buzzing down to Lisboa' you do know that you both have a place to stay ;)

Holiday would be great, we were talking about it only yesterday a week in a good hotel anywhere would be great. Unfortunately RL dictates our activities and any holiday will be a spur of the moment event, and probably not restful.

The place I'd really like to go is back to the USA. New York... I only scratched the surface last visit.

PS: The non-pork in Egypt is no where near as good as the real-pork in Portugal !

Take your sunscreen. :D

I am going to Atlantic City for this weekend. That is as close to a vacation as I get most years.
The question is how much do you expect to win? I love gambling cities like Vegas, but always make sure I only carry $30 into a casino at any one time. I have never been to Atlantic City, Goat, so other than gambling (and cheap price to go from your location) what attracts you to Atlantic City?

I know some of us travel for family and for desires not our own, but when travelling for your own desires, what attracts you to a spot? What do you love about a spot, or at least what do you think you might love?

I am not one for sunny beaches. I've lived in California, visited Florida and my home town is a vacation spot. I've never been to Northern Africa, but I am very close now and it is cheap for us. I've held a long fascination with Egypt, but won't go there under current conditions. I want to go to Morocco because it's different in my mind, perhaps exotic in my fantasy. Maybe I will learn something more about the history of Africa/Europe and about the cuisine. I suppose that when I vacation, I am an explorer of sorts. I love going off the beaten path (without my jewelry, of course).

You would willingly accept that disasterous duo into your home? You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din!

:D

I play poker, and I don't sit down at a table with less than $200

Though the tournament I will be playing in this Sunday will be free. I won my way into it through a free poker league. Top eight go to the World Series of Poker in Vegas later this month, next month, and some of July. So I got that going for me :D

But I also like going for the time away from everyone bothering me with things that I don't want to think about. My boss, my parents, my nephews.

Plus, it is supposed to be sunny for at least half of this weekend, so the beach should be entertaining :D

But really, it all come back to the poker tables. There is something electric for me when playing poker at a casino table. The chips, the dealers, the people I don't know playing against me for money, the long walks to the restroom hoping that no one hits the bad-beat jackpot while I am away getting lunch. The whole experience is just one of those driving factors in my life. If I could be a professional card player I sure would take the opportunity right away.

Well ...LOL. You know we were promised a visit by you and wife this month ... how long will you be in Lisboa? Perhaps the two of you will be interested in a day or two in Morocco with us?

Enviously long.

Heading to London in August for 8 days to visit Grace!:)

It's the first REAL vacation I've had in about 5 years, but I really can't complain too much.

Before I moved to my current location I lived in paradise..."The Emerald Coast"...also referred to as the Redneck Reviera. When I was in Jr High, High School and college....it was THE place to go. In fact...my AV is a photo of the beach in Destin FL.:)

Philly for a few days this weekend and the beginning of next week for my oldest stepdaughter's receipt of her Ph.D.

Southern Oregon this summer sometime to see the Oregon Caves, Crater Lake, maybe somewhere else.

I'm planning on a cruise some time next year, but not sure when.

The trip to Philly was nice, but I'm exhausted. I'm thinking very much of a Mediterranean cruise, but we may also be going to Canada to see my oldest stepdaughter and her partner get married.
