The stores will be telling you that they are failing due to the bad economy. When that comes to ladies fashions I say....

 LIES! LIES! I tell you! All lies!

I finally gave in and went shopping today for some new summer clothes and I can tell you that it isn't the need to save money that kept me from buying. I took one look at the women's fashions and went screaming from the store. I cannot begin to explain to you how WTF? baaaaaad women's clothes are this summer. We're talking worst acid trip ever. We're talking "I'd rather be raped in prison!" We're talking letting your color-blind 5 year old design the clothes...no, I take that back, the 5 year old would have done a better job.

Allow me to present a few examples. WARNING: the following may cause temporary blindness or vomiting.

That'll do for a start. I could go on and on. Almost everything in the stores--yes, plural stores was like this!

Run! Hide! Hibernate till winter when the gaudy colors and patterns may finally have stopped looking for victims and returned to their own weird and terrible planet!

It's all a government conspiracy to get us used to these fashions as they are high fashion in the rest of the universe that started just outside our atmosphere. Soon the Ambassadors of the Twelve will be paying us a call and the governments of the world do not want us all puking our guts out when the get here. Thus, having us get used to the look now.

Gee, I've got Hawai'in shirts that are more subdued than that. Remarkable.

Those things would even suck as curtains.

There will pundits talking about how we want bright colors to offset the worry and stress about jobs and money...that we want sunshine and all. I say bah! Whatever happened to halter tops and really short skirts!

Bright colors are one thing--patterns like these are quite another. I'll tell you one thing, if they're suppose to alleviate my stress over a lack of money and jobs, they've failed. Now, on top of everything else, I'm stressing out about finding new clothes!

You have to understand, I didn't even fret over whether I'd be able to find something in my size. All I did on my journey through the stores was bounce from rack to rack like a pinball going "Ack! I can't wear that!" It didn't even matter if it came in my size. It would've looked awful if it had fit me perfectly.

Even the beautiful models look terrible! What drugs were these designers on?

Too bad they won't go back to the orignal fashions. Skin and tanned skin.

Cat

I can't remember the last time I felt excited to buy anything...the hideous maternity-top trend kept me out of stores for nearly a year!

No argument from me!

I mentioned halter tops. You said rack to rack. I smiled. I'm easy. Thank you.

Anyway, they were on the smeary happy drugs, not the designer drugs.

Sorry.

IMO the dress top left and the top bottom right are rather pretty. Of course I live in Florida where gaudy clothing is de rigueur. At least for the tourists and the snowbirds. I do have several Hawaiian and flower themed polo shirts in my wardrobe for formal dinners and picnics...even one in dark pastels for funerals. ;)

So psychedelic is the new Black?

Oh, and the other look that seems to be in: Thrift-Store-Homeless  Namely, skinny jeans with lots of holes:

Gingham is also back.
MadMax Slutchic - personally, I love it - I'm finally in fashion!

Derelicte - that's the look.

I was doing that before anybody.

I don't know, but the two dresses look very easy to get off...

if the need arises.

Those psychedelic florals are hideous. In the UK it's more of pretty florals thank god.

Um, no. In the early 60's America went gah-gah over Hawaiian prints, including gaudy florals and colors. This they combined with pop-art and other such wildly patterned stuff. THAT is the new black. Just to emphasize the difference:

This is psychedelic:

This is a floral dress from around 1963:

Um...actually, they do look similar  But honestly, these patterns looked more Hawaiian/pop art to me than psychadelic. I did see tie-dye as well. Believe me, the tie-dye was far more tasteful

Maybe they're trying to cash in on the 40th anniversary of Woodstock...

Then again, maybe not. To be honest, I don't think even the most spaced-out hippie would be seen dead in anything like that! I certainly don't remember anything quite that tasteless in the 60s, but I suspect none of the people designing this stuff was even born in the 60s, or even the 70s for that matter.

*Shrug* I kinda like the sun dress and the blue/black top.

Hey, thrift store homeless is my signature look!

I don't mind the cut of any of the stuff 3113 posted, but the patterns wouldn't do me any justice. Though, I have noticed some department stores are carrying the same style in black, brown and white for some of the pieces with more obnoxious prints. This is good for me, since I tend to be like Jack White with my color choices.

oh no, a return to models looking like heroin addicts. bleah.
Isn't that always how it is? I was just getting a good Meth addiction going and now I find that it's no longer in vogue and Heroin's back in fashion!
