How many worlds do you inhabit? What happens when they collide?

It's embarrassing when I encounter two people from two of my disconnected social networks, because in each world I have a different persona. Here are the worlds I inhabit, with any combination of collisions being a source of potential awkwardness:

  • Literotica people
  • The musicians I play with
  • The medical research people I work with
  • My university and school friends
  • My children and their friends
  • My in-laws
  • My mother and her friends

How many worlds do you inhabit? What happens when they collide?

I inhabit a few worlds with only a few interacting.

bfs/gfs
friends
parents
bf/gf's friends
bf/gf's family
work-colleagues
extended family.

Really, only a few of these will mix. Work is pretty much completely isolated. My family and the family of a gf/bf have, as of yet, never met, and my parents very rarely meet my friends. Really only bfs/gfs and friends will meet and that requires some holding back from my gf/bf.

Too many to count but the Literotica one doesn't meet the others.

I'm a community activist in my local town but I also support other community organisations in other towns from time to time.

My local City Hall's councillors are beginning to get used to the idea that my (real) name crops up in nearby communities but they were startled to see me, dressed as my AV, on the front of a tourist leaflet for another town.

One of the local councillors, visiting my house, was surprised to see that I had an invitation from the Mayor of a French town to attend an opening ceremony. At that ceremony several of the English attendees knew me (and I knew them) but I knew more of the French attendees than any other English representative.

Apart from being known and recognised as me, I'm becoming increasingly known as my daughters' Dad. I enjoy being told "Oh, so YOU are X's Dad" because it means that my daughters are prominent in their own fields.

I have different worlds but don't have the energy to have different personas so it's no biggie when they collide. I'm happy when I remember everybody's name, though.

Right on, right on.

I have home, poker, work and kung fu. I really don't care if any of them cross over any more than they already do, as I have two family members that I play poker against (my father actually knocked me out of one game on Tuesday).

  • Lit
  • Author (which often meets Lit)
  • Family (which never meets Lit or Author)
  • Friends (who are aware of Lit & Author)
  • Bel (who inhabits all my worlds now)

My family and Close friends
Colleague
My some forums on the net friends
My BF's clique and family
Relatives
My Church friends
and now I think I will have my lit friends :p

That was one of my favourite films. Made in 1952, some seven years before I was born. I loved the special effects at the time, as good as the original War of the Worlds.
I'd hate to see it again as I am sure I'd probably cringe.

I don't really have a crossover between my different lives.

In case anyone was wondering, I was referring to 'When Worlds Collide'

Oh.

Let's see -

Family (knows the least amount of me)
Friends from high school / college (A little more me here)
Friends from Uni in India (A different side of me)
Childhood friends (grew very far apart)
Friends in Uni in the US (different friends know different levels)
Friends on Lit (A lot but not all)
Various men (A different side of me)

They don't really collide in face-time. I might talk about one to the other, but they don't meet as such.

I have one world and one persona. But I have the talent to make you believe I'm anyone. I could have been a fair actor.

SUB JOE

Naaah. Life is a lot easier my way and I dont wonder and worry.

I have a bunch.

Can't tell you about them though. That would be too close to colliding. Trick to not having them collide is not letting them near each other. I don't talk about one "branch" in another. And to not represent a different "Local me" persona in different branches. I yam what i yam.

LIAR

It makes for interesting conversation on social occasions.

So your family, colleagues and neighbors all know that you are a regular patron on a porn board?
[whispers] I don't think he has any family, colleagues or neighbors. Given his one persona that would seem unlikely....[/whispers]

Joey! Ohmygosh, Joey is that you? It's me, Booby, your mother's bridge partner! Are you really on this forum? Shame on you. She raised you to be a nice boy!

I don't talk to my neighbors, but I can answer that in the affirmative. I have mentioned to people in all facets of my life that I have written porn stories for a free site (I don't write erotica, I write porn ;) ), and I that I hang out in the site's forums.

Yes, I might be a little too open with my life ;)

Stop playing out my wank fantasies

My little persona has more facets than a kaleidoscope. People use me sparingly, like a firehose or double-bladed axe. For some tasks there is no substitute for me, and for everything else...you need less.

Great topic. I've accumulated radically different worlds and it's been a real effort to keep them separate. The risk is sort of arousing, though.

Probably the most "ulping" overlap of my life was when I was at a mike accepting the presidency of a PTA organization and looked down and the man who initiated me in gay sex was sitting on the front row with his wife.
