Some of the anxiety drops away eventually, but there's always going to be some there -- especially if you've written something special that you're hoping for lots of feedback from.

The day there's no anticipatory feelings about a story you've written being posted, then hang up your jersey...you no longer want to play. Unless you're writing to pay the bills.

I'm more than a little "curious" about the reception of my next two to post. Very different from each other and the second one in very dangerous territory.
So, the answer to your question is no, I don't think you ever get indifferent to what the response will be to the stories--these will be my #338 and #339 here.

The anxiety is always there, but it definitely lessens as you get more used to the process. If your writing is widely followed, you know you'll have people who enjoy your work and will find it, no matter what category you submit in. If you write to a smaller audience, then you get used to that as well, so you know what to expect.
But I'm sure most of us still feel the butterflies, at least to a point.

Only a hundred and odd to go then.
I've experimented with different styles and categories. Some okay, some less so. Fun though. Always interesting to see the results.

I have only posted eight stories, but even with the last one, I checked every hour for a week until it went up and was readable by everyone
for the little newbie from the good little witch.

Maybe a little, but if you explore and expand your scope then the sense of anxious anticipation does not get any better, you just get relaxed while you're waiting.....Welcome, have fun and good luck.....
PS - don't let the negative spammers get to you, if they strike. I leave the negative comments up, sort of like a badge of honor.....

I had the same anxiety for about the first year after I started submitting. But, since I began posting on the AH almost immediately after my stories began to go up, I learned a few things about Lit's politics. Making friends makes handling the bashing that much easier.
I'd have to say, in echo with some of the above comments, that when you begin to change your style a bit, you wonder if the response will change. Will I still get those magical red H's? Will I still get positive comments? Will I attract trolls?
If you really want to be a writer, don't worry about the small things like ratings and scores, views and votes. Those are nice, they can sometimes pump you up, but they can also bring you down if you take them too seriously. I know, for a time, I was inordinately proud of the long list of red H's beside my stories. I became dismayed when I lost a few.
These days, to be honest, I hardly check the rating. I mostly look at the comments.

Congrats on finishing your story and submitting it!
There's nothing quite like the thrill of the first one. As others have noted, the impatience does fade after you've submitted a few. When a story takes months to finish, another couple days to post doesn't always seem like much. Also, I think when you've had well received stories, you stop worrying quite as much about the fate of each one.
