As if things weren't complicated enough.

Love advice for the ladies: Watch out for men born in winter, especially Swedish ones

Men having “thrill-seeking” genes who are born in winter are more “venturesome” than those born at other times of the year.

All this is according to a recent Public Library of Science report that being born in winter turbo-charges the genetic predisposition toward thrill-seeking. The report found that winter-birthday x genes = extra risk taking, at least in the US college-age population studied.

You know, I find that dubious in the extreme. Define 'winter' for an American. Are we talking about Pt. Barrow Alaska or Hilo, Hawai'i? It would be the same time of the year but the temperatures and the sunlight hardly relate to each other. More Scandinavian solipsism, methinks.

The desert of Southern NM or the Rockies to the North? :D

Very rare snow to 56 inch average snowpack

It makes sense to me, another one of those complexities of adaptation that borders on Lamarckian - neo-Lamarckian, stationary phase mutation.

Found some interesting Blogs on sexual chemistry , here's another one: Your Brain on Sex.

This site seems to be pushing a book, and possibly some sort of New Agey thing that goes with it, they seem a bit alarmist on how addictive orgasms can be - still, it's interesting stuff, it goes into the chemistry that not only holds us together, but drives us apart.

Did you go to their "home" page? They're pushing the old Taoist non-orgasmic sex doctrine. What nonsense! Latest studies indicate that orgasm is positively correlated with good health and that men who experience two or more per week have a (I think) 40% less probability of contracting prostate cancer and heart disease.

Beware the Internet, my children, it comes with foolishness aforethought!

Yeah, I got that sense, the old Aristotelian thing - most people I know manage to deal with it without getting too dramatic, at best it exacerbates other problems, usually monetary.

People don't get divorced over sex all that often, not since the surge during the sexual revolution abated - I can see where in extreme cases it could lead to an unhealthy cycle of abuse, but I think for most people, the make up sex makes it worth a little drama.
