In any case, socialism at the very least requires state or social ownership of the means of production. A European-style tax-redistributive social-democratic welfare state is not socialism. And Obama did not promise and is not likely to deliver any such thing. The most he's going to do is place some corporations and banks under a kind of temporary government receivership on condition of being bailed out by tax dollars, and he's probably not even going to do much of that.

Once you take in the corporate tax rate on profits and the capital gains tax you've managed to absorb over half of corporate profits, and face the fact that government manages almost every aspect of corporate and small business activity, so based in that who really owns the means of production?

Not at all, I've been watching this show a long time and have it all figured out. Name a capitalist at GM who will benefit now that the government has bought control of their company.

All of them, compared to what would have happened to them without a bailout -- which not even they could reasonably expect to get unconditionally, having failed so disastrously as capitalists.
