Spring ...

These days I hide out here with a humanities textbook by my side, unread. Yet my eye wanders to the window, my mind to the park ...

Do you like art? And just what do flowers have to do with your life? And what is your favorite color? Do you have one? And your season? Mine is spring. Always has been. I feel a not dissimilar feeling to the first stages of sexual arousal come to think of it. Odd. I mean, I'm not horny, but that catch in the breath, a small electric feeling over the body, excitement at seeing each stage of spring. Do you feel it, too, when seeing first the buds appear on the trees, a signal to keep watch: it's coming?

Then the fresh grass deepens in color, and now we must look out for the first flowers. These usually catch me by chance, especially here in Texas. The soil is weird, the Blackland Prairie it's called, the black clay is not a friend to many but the tough. Even so, here and there the odd crocus can be spotted, then the daffodils. They get a short life; heat can rear it's blazing head at a moments notice before running south again, hiding out for it's perfect timing. But who notices with the warmth on our faces and the pear trees starting their bloom? And all to quickly the snowy branches are half green; fleeting young love, cut short before we're ready. The deep fuchsia of the red bud saves us; we will still have color until the wildflowers bloom. Ahhh ...

and then it's here: bluebonnet time!

God's art.

No wonder paintings in a textbook seem so dull when real-life technicolor turns like a kaleidoscope through spring.

(yeah, my grammar sucks, this is just a thought, not a literary masterpiece. Just enjoy thinking about spring!)

Pfff... it's still a month away for spring to start up here.

I've already brought out the prescription nasal spray, Advair, eyes drops and stocked up on Puffs Plus.

I have my own supply of Astelin, which I combine with a doctor approved OTC, have my own supply of tissues, but I cannot waiver from loving spring ...

Fall's a killer too, and in the north, summer. Ragweed, grass, all sorts of flowers.

But hey, I was going for Monet here! Y'all've killed my lil word picture.

A tear falls from my cheek. Obviously I only spoke to my own heart. A failure. [sniff]

Not at all. Read this. or even this.

I love spring too... the lilacs are my absolute favorite... byut hyacinths I could do without. their scent is so overpowering that it kills me.

I love the dogwood, apple and cherry blossoms, and the activity the warmer weather brings, too.

Heard of the tulips in Michigan, but never the WeedFest in Ohio!:D

I've been to Holland during tulip time. Awesome!! And I've seen intentionally grown fields of dandelions in Germany, which caused me untold internal humor as I imagined explaining it back home!

Thanks. I don't know how to post links here, or I'd give y'all some bluebonnets. (Since my lil contemplation only brought sneezes!)

Not a fail, your heart is pure and your words are golden...I love Spring in theory but it kicks off all the other seasons that I have no business being out in - like summer and fall. Even winters here aren't harsh enough. My allergist suggested I move to the North Pole!

So as lovely and heartfelt as your words truly are, it is hard for me to appreciate the beauty of spring when it's kicking my ass. ;)

JOMAR I had a DI just like Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. I folded a handkerchief wrong once, HOLY SHIT!

I'll see if I can think of another 'spring' article then for you.

This is nice...thank you :) By the way, I like the way you engage me by asking a question of me, especially the ones like "Do you have one?" or "do you feel it, too?" It's kind of like something George Clooney does, intentionally or not, when I see him act. He'll repeat a question by mentioning the last few words of it. I always liked that.

Great taste, Kim! I only wish I could see and smell nice lilacs here in Nevada. I've never seen any like the ones I saw in East Texas when I was there as a kid. Just not enough water here, I guess, and maybe the soil's only a generation removed from Moon dust.

Ha! I can only imagine the culture shock.

R. Lee Ermey is pretty great. I've liked him in everything he's been in.

Whenever I hear the 'queers/steers' phrase I think of An Officer and a Gentleman.

Not that you ask for it, but thank you for serving, JBJ.

I'm all pro-military and all, but can y'all Texas haters move over to your own thread? This one here's about flowers and art and sneezing.

Thank you.

The dogwoods have been blooming here now for weeks, but in just the last few days, I've caught that smell that tells me spring is absolutely here.

Won't be long until the jasmine in the front yard starts blooming. :)

(and, I've already been sneezing)

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

--William Wordsworth
