I read the joke a couple of months ago, and it was funny because it was so far over the top. Since then, the iterations, including mine, have just been mean-spirited.

Wow. The point of those other jokes went right over your head, didn't they? I'll explain it as simply as I can Box. See that first joke wasn't funny and it was mean spirited. But you thought it was funny and you didn't see it was mean spirited. So, myself and others gave you the same joke back only with the players re-arranged. My Republicans were over the top as the original democrats, weren't they? Accurate as the Democrats in the original joke if you're think that stereotyped, straw-man, cartoons are accurate depictions. Yet, suddenly, it was no longer funny to you.

That was the point. If the joke was funny, you'd have found it funny in all it's iterations. But like a bully who laughs when a nasty trick is played on others, yet somehow doesn't find it funny when the same joke is played on them, you didn't find the joke funny when the shoe was on the other foot. Suddenly, low-and-behold, it was "mean spirited." That was the reason we created those jokes, to show YOU and everyone else who found the original joke funny what it was like to see it from the other person's point of view. The point of view that found it stupid and mean-spirited rather than funny.

That's what we call "doing unto others." If you don't like being the butt of a mean-spirited joke, you shouldn't make mean-spirited jokes. Alas, it doesn't look like you can see that you even made one.

So, let me put this another way. If I brought to this site a life-long democrat, a solider (yes, believe it or not, there are faithful democrats who are in the army), who has killed insurgents, and seen many of his fellow troops and friends killed by insurgents, and sacrificed precious time with his family to fight for his country...would you tell him that original joke? With the democrat doing nothing and only republicans and rednecks taking actions against terrorists?

Would you expect him to laugh if you did tell that joke?

Caleb Lacey, 19, a volunteer member of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, set the fire at a neighbor's apartment house as a staged rescue attempt that went awry, said Nassau County homicide detective Lt. John Azzata.
"The suspected motive is what arson experts call 'hero' or 'vanity' — to be the savior and appear to have saved individuals," he said.
Lacey faces one count of arson and four counts of second-degree murder in the Feb. 19 blaze in the Long Island town of Lawrence. He was arrested Friday.
Police said Lacey poured gasoline into the building's only staircase and set the fire, then returned to the fire department headquarters. When the call came in, Lacey "was one of the first responders on the fire truck," said Azzata.

Unfortunately, yes we still have chavs, but no, they are not the equivalent of rednecks.

Rednecks, whatever their faults, are ruggedly independent. Chavs can be parasites on the welfare state.

The new term of abuse, as coined by our government is NEETS - those people Not in Employment, Education or Training - in other words those who don't try to support or improve themselves but live, sometimes very well, on state benefits.

If you are unemployed but making reasonable efforts to find work, you wouldn't be a NEET. If you aren't trying and can't be "bovvered" to try, you're a NEET.
