**POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
Anybody else watching? I can't wait. I have no idea what's going to happen. Any speculation? :nana:

I can't wait until it is over and done with, so that people can all stop talikg about it as if it were any better than the original show. this travesty of programming needs to be over, and it finally is! :D

I don't necessarily think it's better than the original show, it's just totally different. It's more of a character driven drama than a traditional science fiction show.

I think it's one of the best shows to come along in years.

I've never missed an episode, and I have everything that's been released on DVD.

I realize that it's not for everyone, but I think it's excellent.

Kevin Smith said it was the best show on television and I have to agree. A most excellent production.

Oh, I'd say that BSG is infinitely better than the cheese-fest of the original. That said, I dislike BSG in the manner of one who loathes a particular piece of art, yet can't help but look at it and contemplate its meaning. Whatever else is true, BSG is brilliant in the execution of its character and story development, with very few glaring technical flaws.

Where I find the series distasteful is in its relentless *hopelessness*. Every week things get more fucked than they were the week before, to the point where even when they achieved their goal of finding earth, the victory rang hollow and bitter and empty.

What the series has often needed and rarely received is some light heartedness, some hope, some *real* victories that weren't immediately ripped out from under the characters and the viewers. That doesn't make it an artistic failure, of course, but it does make it damn depressing.

BSG asks an important question: Is humankind good enough and worthy enough to be saved? The writers have answered pretty clearly: No, not really. BSG is like a big sign that says "Humankind is fucked".

But man, what a beautiful sign :)

I watched it. Hated the ending. The middle of the last show was good, but the ending just didn't do it for me at all. Oh well. It was a good run anyways.

I loved it.
Loved the series.
Loved the aching drama of it
there hasn't been a show like it outside of 24 on mainstream TV ever. It was gritty and real - and hell how happy do you expect it to be with a renewable enemy, a devasted culture and a handful of damaged over crowded ships limping along in space????? It had its moments of beauty, its moments of transcending all the hullabaloo that usually goes along in a show fraught with war and violence. It was modern and cutting. It was sensual and frank. It showed the beauty and ugliness that is what it irrevocably means to be a human. It refused to gloss over anything. It was in your face and blunt. And that made it worth watching.

It made me laugh, cry, hate, fear, despise, question, ponder, think, love and hope. It was all those things and more.

There are apparently two spin offs coming this fall - I hope they can do those shows the justice they deserve.

When the entire series goes onto DVD - it will be a permanent addition to my favorite shows of all time.

This is the only place I can actually discuss BSG, so bile and spoilers incoming:

THE FUCK WAS THAT? After a series filled with setbacks, mishaps, war, death and hatred - i.e. realism - the whole thing gets deus-ex-fucking-machina'd into "ooh yay we found earth we live happily ever after"? How about Boomer still not deciding which side of the line to stand on? Cavil committing suicide? Starbuck getting a magical fucking epiphany to where Earth is? Starbuck being a fucking angel? FUCK THAT. The only good part was Tyrol flipping out and finally choking a bitch in the finest tradition of choking bitches, but goddamn I'm angry.

Yeah, there were parts I liked and parts I thought were really weaksauce. The Starbuck storyline especially griped me. It certainly wasn't the path I expected them to take. :(

Tyrol choking that bitch. Oh YES! I applauded him for that one! I agree with your gripes. I didn't want to say anything last night, because I was pretty sure that some hadn't seen it yet. I hate to give spoilers too early! Yours were right on time!

Just watched it here in the UK, twice! lol

I thought it was great. Loved the whole Opera house stuff, the balthar/caprica 'ghosts' thing, the special effects were immense, and I thought the Roslin/Adama bit towards the end was handled with quite a bit of dignity.
Gotta admit, I would have preferred a slightly different finish with Starbuck, but I like the way they wrapped it up. (trying not to say too much for those who haven't seen it yet!)
Loved the bit at the end, with the illustrious creater/writer/producer Ron Moore, reading the magazine - fantastic little touch, and especially the version of the music playing on the small radio.

For trying to wrap up the series in a double-episode like they did, I thought they did great with it overall. 9.5/10
(and that's only coz I was rooting for that couple to get together, before one of them disappeared)

Right On!!!!
I was sitting watching it on my chair and caught myself shouting, "Go on! Break the bitches neck!"
:D
Kinda scared me!

Just finished watching this, and I have to say it was excellent, not only one of the best episodes of BSG yet but one of the best endings to a series *ever* (still not my #1 favorite though, the best ending to any series *ever* was the ending to Angel).

I enjoyed that they brought so many plot threads in and finished them off, and I even enjoyed that they left a few mysteries for the imagination.

Lost could really take a lesson from BSG. A little mystery is good, but you need to provide some answers, too.

The more I've thought about it, the better I think the BSG finale was. In life there aren't usually perfect endings either, so why should this be any different? For a group of people who spent so much time hanging by a thread, it's a pretty damn good outcome.

I totally agree about Angel, hard to top that sort of brilliant writing. Also about Lost, I love the idea and the characters, but most of the time I find it to be a lot of "WTF?" and even more "Huh?". ;)
