Your favorite brand of rum?

well if we're calling preferences, a nice glass of Jameson or Tullamore dew would be my preference for a nice pick me up

I have yet to find a rum I can't drink down straight. I've surprised a few men at being able to drink it without gagging or whatever. Rum just goes down smooth for me no matter what.

True, but Appleton always left me craving more!!!! :) Or maybe I was a lush then :)

My Navy rum was 95.5% proof, not as strong as the Slivovika I drank in what was then Yugoslavia at 140% proof, but Navy rum was served by the half-pint...

I like a hurricane with 151 and white rum.

Used to drink quite a bit of Malibu and pineapple juice when I lived alone. I had an eat-in kitchen that served as a bar and the dining room was for dancing. :D

i think tequila is incredibly vile, even like patron and stuff. Ill take cheap whiskey or cheap rum over expensive tequila any day

Some Canadian Sailors got me to try Royal Navy Black Rum once

A half . . . a . . . pint of rum? Must have made walking on the heaving decks a bit of a challenge, no?

It might have contributed to do with the survival rate after battle amputation - the patient was already unable to feel pain and pickled against germ infection. :)

It didn't seem to do much damage to the Royal Navy's gunnery until the advent of modern technology in World War 1. The 1914 Battle of the Falkland Islands was distinguished by a spectacularly low rate of hits to shells fired.

Rum is no longer issued in the Royal Navy but the ships are not alcohol free.

After all, what's a good Brit to do without his pints? :D

I remember when the Royal Navy discontinued the rum ration. Though traditionalist civilians bemoaned the face, as I recall the sailors really didn't care. Most of them were trading in their rum rations for beer at meals, anyway.

Malibu! Malibu and OJ, great breakfast drink. Just had one.

I got turned on to Appleton when I visited Jamaica in '07. However, Mt. Gay is good, too. My favorite thing to make from it is rum punch.

You need:

  1. 2 oz. rum
  2. 1 1/2 oz. sweet & sour mix
  3. Dash of Angostura bitters
  4. 2 oz. orange juice
  5. 1/2 oz grenadine

Fill your glass with ice first, and build the drink on top of it. Stir it until it turns a lovely shade of pink.

Well, of course; so was I. They've got enough rum to make it by the gallon, too. I just figured it would be easier to give the recipe for one drink. One assumes that the readers know their multiplication tables and can do the math for themselves.

not all do but isn't that what calculators are for

I have heard rumors that while in Puerto Rico in Feb. 78 I was carried out of both Bacardi and Ron Rico distilleries after the tour and many samples

Since I don't remember it, it couldn't be true, right?

thats my credo, if i don't remember, it didn't happen.

sort of a "i reject your reality and substitute my own" situation

How can you go past Bunderberg Rum. The polar bear advertising camp really seals the deal for me
