I REALLY want to go to the Art Institute, having never been there. So if that's an option, count me in. :)

With all the shopping, site seeing and visiting going on will anyone be able to party?? LOL

Right now there are two things of note happening at the AI. First, the huge collection of Impressionist paintings has returned after a sojourn to other museums while their museum home was being renovated. Second, there is a special exhibit on until mid April called "Becoming Edvard Munch," which promises to be quite fascinating.

Hours are: Friday: 1030 to 5:00, Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 to 5:00

Admission is $12

Location: 111 S. Michigan Avenue (at Adams Street)

Transportation: The Art Institute is located just one block east of the Loop and is easily accessible via the city's "El" train system. The Brown, Green, Orange, Pink, and Purple lines all stop above ground at Adams/Wabash, in front of the museum. The Red and Blue lines stop underground at Monroe, just a few blocks away. A number of bus lines also stop in front of the museum. Currently, El fare is $1.75 per adult with an El card; $2 with cash. Visit the Chicago Transit Authority's Web site for route, schedule, and fare details.

Metra is Chicago's commuter rail transit system. The Van Buren and Millennium stations stop underground just 1–2 blocks away on Michigan Avenue. Visit Metra's Web site for route, schedule, and fare details.

Now see, that sounds fun. I am not really sure of just what Impressionist paintings are, but I could learn. *wonders if I can fit into anyone's pocket to go via the internet!! ;)*

Impressionists included Manet, Monet, Degas, Renoir, for example.

Here's one of my favorites, from Renoir:

Okay! I like Monet and Renoir. Wasn't aware that they were known as Impressionist painters. (I grew up very sheltered and in a SMALL little town. Not much more than a village, so never got to experience some of the finer things in life...like Art and studying painters and such.) I need to expand my horizons!

I so miss Roxy... I think.
I'm voting ban the Chicago Threads as us deviants who cannot join the festivities are insanely, proprietorially, and right royally f**king jealous. :p

Chicago would be a great place to broaden those horizons. The Art Institute has one of the world's best collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist (Van Gogh, Gauguin, Seurat, Cézanne) paintings.

We could start our own thread and let them be jealous of us:kiss::devil:

Let's see. Rolf and Blue have been stashing some drinks in a safe place from the Naked palace (Don't tell Molly!) I was planning on using the Coffee fund from Abtuse's hangout to hire some strippers. Male and female (Don't tell Abs!) What else do we need!

Okay. My muse just ordered me to get cack to editing so we can work on yet a new story. Geez....she goes from not wanting to work at all to being bossy!!;)

Yankee. The cellphone in your coat pocket is blocking my view of all the great art.....when you get to Chicago, can you please put it in the other pocket? Thanks.

Seriously. I have to go do research and google...and hopefully next year I can make Chicago and maybe visit the AI myself.

Since so many people are talking about taking a trip(s) into Chicago for sightseeing this year, I thought I'd post a few facts ...

The easiest plan for transportation would likely be the CTA, as the Blue Line runs to O'Hare and we can use the 24-hour shuttle service to get to the airport from the hotel for nothing. You can buy passes for transportation on all CTA trains and busses at a limited number of stations, but O'Hare is one of those stations. The pass costs $5.75 for a 1-day unlimited ride pass and $14 for a 3-day unlimited ride pass. As regular fares are $2.25 for trains (and you'd need at least two tickets to go in and then get back), the passes are a pretty good deal if you plan on anything more than a back-and-forth trip and you can get pretty much anywhere and everywhere in the city.
