I have been asked, again, to run a quiz for a pensioners' group.

I have adapted the questions from a quiz book published in 1956.

How would you do? I have had to change some of the questions because they always complain that I make them too difficult.

Here is the first set of questions:

Partners

Whose name do you associate with?

01. Romulus
02. Darby
03. Romeo
04. David
05. Ophelia
06. Pyramus
07. Damon
08. Roland
09. Gog
10. Tristram

Og

The second set...

Child’s Play

11. What were Cinderella’s coachmen before they took to driving?
12. Where did Peter Pan take Mrs Darling’s children
13. What was the source of the sea in which Alice was nearly drowned?
14. What was the only password to open the robbers’ cave?
15. How long did Rip Van Winkle’s nap last?
16. How was Rumplestiltskin in the habit of disappearing?
17. What did Tweedledum and Tweedledee quarrel about?
18. Who was Bluebeard’s last wife?
19. Who wore seven-league boots?
20. Who buried the babes in the wood?

I got all but two-- Maybe only two-and-a half.

Darby's partner I only know because Dorothy Sayers referenced them at some point, and I looked them up.
Ophelia... her brother?
Damon, I only know from Runyon:eek:
and I know who Childe Roland is, but not who his pair-partner is... Not anymore.
The second group, I don't know Bluebeard's last wife's name, but I remember her sister's...

I'm so illiterate that I only know question 4.

David killed Goliath, and not in a love tryst gone awry.

David put his eyes on the lovely Bathsheba, who was inconveniently married to the honorable Uriah. David, King by this time, had the poor sucker killed and took his wife, Bathie. Now, if David was having different kinds of thoughts, he would have prolly been having them regarding his best buddy, Jonathan.

Now, I just need to go read some more and figger out all 'em other people ...
