RIP Philip Jose Farmer

RIP.

I have heard of some of the books he wrote...but never read them. I take it he was a very good Sci-Fi writer.

I had no idea Farmer lived in Peoria, IL, the very heart of normalcy!

It's kind of like when William Burroughs lived in Kansas.

Farmer had an amazing imagination and wrote some very psychosexual sci fi. He's best known for his Riverworld series, though, about a riverboat in the land of the dead.

He was a good one.

Another great one one gone. Sad.

I read and enjoyed several of his works.

No shit! How the hell do you think I feel - I'm FROM Peoria and didn't know. RIP dude. LOVED the Riverworlds. :rose:

As I said Zoot - I"M from Peoria too. You might want to rethink your opinion of what is normal, dude! :D

Are you trying to tell us that you are the average citizen from Peoria? ;)

Well if the world really WAS made up of nothing but married, poker playing lesbians and old sci-fi writing dudes, it would explain one hell of a lot, wouldn't it? :D

(and no, that doesn't descibe the population of Peoria. That town is full of WAY weird people, even by my standards. )

:rose:

He wrote amazingly forward-thinking stuff and dreadfully mediocre stuff. I loved him for it, even as I threw some of his books against a the wall...

My reaction, exactly. With Farmer you had to shift a lot of gravel to find the diamonds but, oh the quality of those few!

RIP, Phil.
