An Open Letter to President Obama About the Republicans (From a Former Republican)

Do you think that one day the USA will be able to do politic without bringing religion in it ?

eta : honest question, I'm really curious about that.

Oh yeah. It's a come and go thing. Eventually they'll lose enough court cases and retreat grumbling only to re-emerge a genearation or two later full of fire and brimstone over some other issue.

Like Prohibition or the War on Drugs? Those worked well...NOT! :D

You know, I have dated a couple of Repubs and went to some rallies over the years and I have never heard anybody yell "kill em" even at one Prolife rally I went to listen to what they were saying... Some guy named Skip who I was told was a biggie in the Prolife movement said Abortionists were going to Hell but I did not hear anyone advocating helping the process along.

On the other hand, at theobamaforum.com, I am seeing a dark side of liberals that I really am not liking to well.

Anyway, I am new here was trying to figure out how long a submission usually takes to be processed?

Hugs and Licks,
Marty

There are films of Palin's rallies, where she allowed her audience to say the most racist things, Poly. On youtube within hours, every time.

It's one of the things that lost McCain the election.

Anything from five to ten days-- and you've given us a shot in the AH drinking game, for asking that! ;)

If you were to Google "kill him" and "Palin Rally" the video in question would probably pop up. It is interesting how different points of view can perceive reality in different ways. Granted, there are extremists on both sides, but if you think the liberals are more violence-prone than the cons, I suggest you do a little more research. Or don't - and hold on to your preconceived notions, which seems to be the conservative way.

Submissions generally take 7 days or so, except contest stories, which go to the head of the line and can post within an hour. Also, opening your story while it's pending bumps it to the back of the line.

Oh Crap Stella! Does a double posted answer mean we have to drink double shots?

Guess you weren't watching the TV coverage of the Republican rallies late in the recent presidential campaign, then. Hard to do with your eyes, ears, and mind shut, though.

Stella, my take on Obama's reach-out to the Republicans is that he has two real purposes in doing so. First, any attempt that he makes to include Republican views in his thinking as he works up a policy proposal will be seen by Independents as a promising thing and it will help keep them in his camp. Second, he knows full well that not all Republicans are ideological purists. For example, he has worked extensively with Richard Lugar on nuclear proliferation, but the two simply don't see eye to eye on the economy. Obama sees that there are bi-politicians (so to speak) in the Republican camp who hold views that are similar to some of his more conservative views. He hopes to eventually win them over to his side on those issues.

He said more than once during the campaign that he tries to think around the next corner (and usually the one after that, as well). I figure that that strategic approach to politics is what's behind his reach-outs.

I am not the only one who sees it this way. I recently read a very good socio-linguistic analysis of Obama's language patterns by George Lakoff that presented these same ideas and a few others as well.

I agree with the Yank.

The man thinks ahead. It's like we've had a bunch of people at the pool table who only line up one shot at a time and now we have a guy looking to his options three or four shots ahead.

The GOP assumes Obama's economic plan will fail and they dont want their fingerprints on it. They dont want Obama using bipartisanship as an apology for his incompetence. The Democrats have the votes to do what they want, anyway. Obama simply wants some GOP fingerprints.

If the economic plan explodes in Obama's face, the Democrats lose. If it succeeds, the GOP gains nothing.

I think Obama's really trying to bridge the cultural divide that's tearing the nation apart. He sees bipartisanship as the political expedient for accomplishing this, but it looks like it may be too late. Angry adversarial politics is now so deeply ingrained in the American system that bipartisanship won't just be ineffective, but impossible as well.

DOC

We're at a place where there's nothing to be gained from compromise or cooperation. Its like the Israelis and the Palestinians. America does have the precedent of the Civil War. 690,000 dead for? emancipation.

I figure by June the whackos will start erupting and polarizing everyone else.

That was the great thing about Clinton, well he did not invent the internet (that was gore) but Clinton gave us internet porn and a blow job is not sex! Oh, and I did not have sex with that woman (who was he talking about hillary?)?

I think Bush Sr. with Janet Rino was about to put the penthouse and hustler out of business but when Clinton came into office he pulled Janet off that case and on to something else (thank god!).

Jumping back to Obama and the democrats…they did start a bill that gives the government more control over the FCC and takes away the freedom of speech, basically an attack on the first amendment. The scary part is that the language is pretty ambiguous and was back to the definition of what “it” is….

Can't forget porn. I mean it's so hard to find these days. :D

I hope so but why has Obama been caught on tape making jokes about Rep, fox news, and rush? my feeling is that when Obama gives a speach he says the "right" thing, but in reality he knows that he has the power and no need for bipartisanship. he still makes comments about this isn't my debt...I came into this mess ...and points the finger to bush. well we all know that, so why not drop the rhetoric and let’s move forward? Let’s get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, restock the military…and rebuild America.

We need to build some type of manufacturing base and some union busting (mostly remove the pension system as its too expensive and out of date).

Gm s is a great example of the failed notion that unions work. GM is bleeding billion and due to contacts can’t shut down enough plants and terminate workers to stop the bleeding. So do we keep pumping billions into a company that might not have a future or find a quality CEO that can stop the hemorrhaging?

I just don't get that...when will people realize that we all bleed red?

ah yes the war on drugs! working very well....its sooooo hard to find pot or coke....or what ever pills one wants to take....

we put people in jail for smoking or selling pot...yet let murders out in weeks or a year or two.

We spend billions on weapons and systems to find drug runners, we supply or sell weapons to the Mexican army…and those weapons end up in the hands of the drug cartel.

Just like liquor, probation never worked. So why not make pot legal and tax it like Cigs (talk about tax savings and a big income for the feds)? Granted the religious right would never allow that. God, some times I feel like the only atheist in the room……god help me.

Clinton appointed Janet Reno attorney general. She never worked under Bush Sr.
