Maybe not for snowbound Northerners, but for us here in the Sunny Southland of California there comes a week, usually the last in February, when the hills get all green from recent rains, and the trees spout their leaves and the air tastes all fresh and new....

Methinks Spring has arrived!

Anyone care to join me in my dance to spring?

I'm one of those eastern northerners, who is very tempted to tell you to "shove it!" but I won't out of politeness ;)

Achooo!!!

Spring sucks.

Though you are quite fetching in your tutu.

No, just Wetter. That's all we get around here. Of course, among pre- and early adolescents, spring arrives with the first hint of hormones!

Back me up here, VM! You feel the call, don't you? That irresistible summons of California SpringTime? Confess. You're already working on your "In Honor Of Spring" painting. Already gathering the items necessary for our annual rites of spring!

Yep! Pussy willows, and, umm... pussy willows, and I'll bring my twelve-cup espresso pot, too.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just get taller girls, rather than make the shorter girls stand on their toes?

I presume they are girls, despite their lack of tit.

No, the Annual Rite of Spring at chez Bear is the pruning of two large, old wisteria in order to show off their March display. I've got the big one done and am heading out to do a quick haircut on the younger one. I'll post pictures when they're in full bloom. It's magnificant. People driving by slow down and stop to stare. Real estate agents call me up telling me that they have a buyer who just has to have my house. :D

I get into painting mode when the thunderheads start to build over the San Jacintos come August. God, I love clouds and naked women.

Some time back, I lived in the Los Angeles area. I became aware of the Sierra Madre Wisteria Festival. Not too far from you. Check it out 15 March 2009.

With the world famous Sierra Madre Wisteria, largest in the world. The blamed thing covers . . . uh . . . over an acre, according to the link and the arbors stretch over several neighbors's yards. My understanding is that if you want to buy one of the houses, there's a CC&R that demands you take care of your portion. Considering how much work my little 30-year-old one is, that might be a deal killer. ;)

That's far more impressive than the pretty one I have in my back yard. I don't know what species it is, but it has tiny white flowers. It's gorgeous, though, and very fragrant.

It hit 65 here today. It sucks that I had to sit in a stall in a cube farm.

Spring? We have at least another month of winter here yet.
That means more snow and ice and cold temperatures and all that lovely wind from the lake . . .

We get a little nervous around here when March approaches. Will it be like 06? Will half the city be wiped out by more tornadoes? Will there be more blizzards while 300 families are left homeless? Or will it be like 07 with an ice storm that knocks out the power to 90% of the inhabitants for more than a week? Or it could be like last April when we got hit with that earthquake.

You gotta love Illinois.

Spring !!!

I am happy for you guys up north. Here in Australia our summer is all but over sadly.

Make sure you enjoy it

I heard the spring peepers tonight; my crocuses are budding a pale buttery yellow and my daffodils are up. Okay, it's just an inch of green, but they're up.

Sunny southern California let me down last week. It was colder there than it was where I was escaping winter from--and this week, I'm back in Virginia and it's colder than in southern California. Not a pretty picture.

Here in the Sunshine State tm, spring is upon us as well. The grass is beginning to lengthen, the palms are budding new fronds, the rushes and cattails are greening in the ponds and swamps and the bougainvillas are putting forth their colorful bracts.

Soon the beaches will be free of snowbirds and habitable once more. :D

Hoo-rah! Two more for our celebration of Spring! Come! Come put on your spring finery and join us out among the trees with their budding new leaves and the grass and the flowers!

It's just a tease here, it's 62F right now, but a cold front's coming and it'll be freezing again in the morning. :( Last year, Southern Illinois had a foot of snow in March, so I'm trying not to get too excited.

I've got daffodils and crocuses and lillies coming up. Haven't checked on the tulips yet, but they're usually a few weeks behind.
