Hopefully not any longer than it took the Bush the lesser people to fuck it up.

But then if everyone thinks this is Obama's responsibility to fix for them, then we're doomed from the beginning.

I think the fix will work. It is a HUGE task, but not insurmountable, and there is enough hope in the American people to give it a shot. I don't think that would have been possible under McCain/Palin. There is no guarantee of success and anyone who thinks so is delusional. Bush put the screws to the economy like a Guantanamo detainee, and it will take time to fix it. I see four four years, although I think the turn around will start much sooner and full recovery won't be possible even in two terms. Bush and Co. couldn't have fucked the economy up any worse than he did, even if that was his goal starting out.

hopefully the plan will work, but personally I think its a joke...maybe a bump in the short term

By no means am I trying to defend bush(we had the wrong bush in office), but I can't see how anyone can put 100% of this on one person. This was the perfect storm! The storm started when Washington decided that every American should own a home: that was freaking nuts! The collapse of high tech, and collapse of real estate market. The big 3 still living in fantasy SUV land. The rise of Walmart. Another, greed ran wild on Wall Street. Finally, our two wars. There were bad policies under Clinton and a lot under bush.

At the emd of the Great Depression Roosevelt was spending 12% of the American income to pay for government. Bush spent 21%. And Obama will likely spend 30%.

100s of billions to banks that dont loan money, 10s of billions to Detroit to not make cars, and 100s of billions for government workers. It cant possibly improve the economy. People making shit and buying shit will improve the economy.

Things will get fixed because desperate people will find solutions to their personal crises by tinkering in their garages and creating new industries and stuff. The government wont give them a dime and will steal what they can if theyre successful . If BOOTA discoveres how to transform fat into gold, Obama will take the credit for it and give the patent to a Wall Street Banker.

Maybe I’m naïve, but a lot of garage companies made it to the big time. For one just look at apple. A bad example is the guy who created the rollerblades (he sold the company without realizing what he had created so shame on him).

Throughout history Republicans have fucked up the economyand blamed it on other things. (The Depression was caused by a Republican.) Republican government is bad for everyone except the ultra-rich. And even they can be hurt if things are allowed to go that far. When a Democrat comes in, does the hard work and gets things back on track, then they say it is the long term work of the Republican who fucked shit up in the first place finally coming to fruition. Reagan with his head in the sand economics policies, Bush the Elder with his continuation of said policies. W with his head in his ass policies.

It can't be put on one person. But a significant amount can be put on the head of the most visible representative of the administration that caused it. When Democrats are in office, people get back to work, everyone makes money. Everyone does better. Maybe the rich don't make as much more than everyone else and that makes them feel poorer, but corporations do better when Americans work. Republicans are shortsighted. They'd rather make a million a year and crash the market than make $500,000 in perpetuity.

I generally don't argue in threads like this, but it is all observable and it happens every time. If the only people who could benefit from Republican government were the only ones who voted Republican not one of them could be elected.

BOOTA

Yes, youre right.

Being a cynic, here's how I see it: Republicans steal your money and Democrats confiscate it. Either way your pockets are empty. Kings always rob the peasants.

We need to get past this legacy, as a commonwealth, or we're doomed. Our taxes should care for the widows & orphans and enhance the quality of life for all, NOT enrich perfumed princes in Washington & New York. We believed this back in 1776.

You mean like the ilk of JBJ putting the recovery on the back of just one person, Obama?

JEN

Scientific American Magazine began life as a journal for inventors and tinkers. One of my kinsmen invented a popular door-lock, and its featured in the magazine circa 1859. Every article was about something real and demonstrable. How to make paint or whisky or gunpowder or perfume or whatever. Today a bureaucrat would climb up your ass with cleats if you made a cheeseburger.

Our salvation is unleashing 300 MILLION minds in this nation NOT BEING MILK & WATER SISSIES TO A HERD OF PERFUMED SHIT-WITS.

I guessed one year, although it would actually be closer to two. That is a reference to the 2010 congressional elections, when those who voted for the stimulus package will find out what Americans think. If there is signifigant improvement, they will win re-election; it there is no signifigant improvment, many will be booted out.

That to me makes no sense because democrats are anti business and pro government enterprise. democrats want to increase taxes and spend more on entitlements and social programs. Carter totally sucked as a prez, and clinton enjoyed the dot com gold rush.

I can see why that makes no sense to you. You're much too doctrinaire about what all Democrats do/think. It's a big tent, honey--lots of different kinds of people have their noses under it.

that is true, I stereotyped...

All I have heard from the democrats is we need more jobs (good), we need to increase taxes (bad), and we need to curve corporate greed. The line between earning a healthy profit and Greed is a very fine line. Greed can be good, and has we’ve seen in the past year (Wall Street & banking) how greed can be basically evil.

This gets me thinking, a job in the private sector adds how much value to the economy? With a private enterprise value is created, with a government enterprise resources are consumed and the cost of labor and product /service will be artificially high.

I just love how Pelosi bitches about ceo’s pay, ceo’s flying around in private jets…yet she as in my post about her, she has no problem flying to Italy on a government charter 737 for mostly personal use (I’m sure that there are republicans that do the same).

And you just keep going on sterotyping. You know, that's why you get some folks' dander up here so easily. You don't seem capable of a complex thought.

lol okay then show me one pro business democrat?

Do your own homework. I have no need to bring along the politically remedial.

It's ridiculous to assert there are no pro-business Democrats, by the way. You seem to claim to be from Florida, but you apparently don't stick your head out the door. The South is swimming in ultraconservative Democrats--a big slug of them are also businessmen.

oh forgot to add...if I only cared what people think about me :)

Well so sorry that there are so many bitter people here…I happen to like my train of thought…complex or simple it has done me well (great grammar!)…I could care less. I think that a lot of people here are simple and foolish

and I'm having way too much fun!

Yeah, goes without saying. That would require the capability of complex thought. :D

Oh, I have no doubt you are having fun. :) I've long assumed you are an alt of someone else here just having fun from another angle.

Nope just little ole me…a rebel without a clue…wanting to change the world but knows I’m totally powerless….

Oh on Friday morning I was enjoying some fine channel surfing and jumped between CNN and Fox. Fox had some guy (I think his name was Glenn something) on that made comments about the military preparing for civil war, the Dow trading around 2600, unemployment hitting 20-30%. I missed most of it but the co-host (Gretchen something) was trying to hide under the coffee table….
