interesting sexuality test

I have taken it a few times over the years and no surprises for me:
"You have completed the Gay - Straight IAT.
"Your Result
"Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for Gay People compared
to Straight People. "

I have on occasion even tried to cheat it and see if I could fudge the results...the best I could do was a moderate automatic preference for Gays.

I have taken a few of the other tests too, they are all pretty interesting. I don't know what value they have, but alot of my gay friends get the same or similar results.

I'm not sure I strongly agree with this. I live in a small country, and too many of the gay people I have met were quite obnoxious. I don't think this applies to everyone.

I view myself as being bi, with more of an attraction towards women. I don't view myself as consciously have anything against gay people. I feel like my results are more indicative of the larger societies view of gay ppl rubbing off on me rather then me disliking gay ppl.

Interesting perspective, thanks. There are obnoxious people of all flavors aren't there? I tend to avoid obnoxious people myself too, too high maintenance.

Hmmm, I think that is what the test is somewhat about: trying to get away from societal influences. But, I don't know how successful or valid the science is. The theory behind it though, does sound intriguing. Khan, I don't think that you dislike gay people, but I don't think that is what the test is about or trying to measure. I think it is more of a measure of who you identify with. I am starting to confuse myself.

I have a "moderate automatic preference for gay people." Preference for what, though? I'm gay, and have always been, so my sexual preference is, of course, to gay women (so... "moderate"? Wtf?) I found it to be more of a co-ordination exercise.

Which is pretty much true if you're talking about my general feelings for people. I could care less if your hetero or homo.

But if it's about the type of person I want a relationship with, I have a very definite preference for women. I'm only attracted to men sexually, and even then just one part of them.

The outcomes are based on how fast you respond. So, I don't think these tests really mean much. I've always had really good hand/eye coordination and quick reflexes. Therefore there wasn't much of a difference in how fast I sorted through the categories.

Over and over, I've noticed that my opinion of a person improves when I find out they're gay. Friends, acquaintances, celebrities, teachers... I just like gay people better. So I'm not sure how accurate that particular IAT is; it certainly has me wrong.

Just curious, but what is it about gay people that you like more? I've known other people that said that, and they usually say that they find homosexuals to be more open minded. Which I agree with.

Well, that's nice , but I don't think that's the whole story for me. I think it's partly the "one of us" mentality, like "yeah, got another one!" With celebrities it's a feeling of "aw yeah, see we are everywhere!" For friends...I don't know. The open-minded thing is a factor here, as is the "we have another thing in common" thing. It's hard for me to put a finger on it. I've always just defined it in terms of "cool points" - like, how cool you are in my book. If you're gay, you're automatically even cooler than you would be if you were straight. I dunno, it's just how I feel.

I sometimes feel the same way. I have taken many of the tests on that site, most of them several years ago. FWIW my background I was raised in a very conservative, religious, slightly bigoted, sheltered lilly white, somewhat homophobic household. Don't know what happened to me but my results tend to run counter to what my upbringing was and moulding environment was. There is no doubt I am gay, I seek gay friends, and am much more comfortable and enjoy socializing with other gay men (this is not sexual, but social...this is why being out is so important for me). I naturally tend to be very accepting and enjoy learning about other cultures and new things. Very open minded and inquisitive.

Sure I have my particular likes and dislikes, don't we all, but I also tend to gravitate to gay people (men).
