And all I did was to completely cut out gluten from my diet. It's been interesting. I actually had some sort of freakish gluten withdrawl and got extremely sensitive to the stuff. I had a vegan frozen dinner at work and didn't count the soy sauce in it as something with gluten and I thought I was going to end up in the E.R. for the allergy shot. Fever, difficulty breathing, skin was itchy, couldn't sit still, etc...

Also, cut out all artificial sweetners and all fast food but I didn't eat much of that stuff at all.

From what I've read it can take up to two years for the body to heal all of the autoimmune response damage.

Anyone else cut out gluten and notice a big change?

I cut out the starches altogether for 2 years. You really don't need it, it's kind of the dirty USDA conspiracy. Just whack the bottom off the pyramid. I still had some legumes, but there's no earthly reason for wheat at all. If a vegetable item is bugging you, try it cooked not raw for a long while.

It did allow a lot of rebound - I can eat a lot of things again, but it really necessitated weird eating for about 2 years.

If you are honestly celiac, and not something else, though, you may never be able to do gluten.

My doc said that I have to cut out wheat, rye and barley completely and that I'll never be able to eat the stuff without problems. :(

It's in everything!

Another unexpected thing is that my appetite has really changed with no gluten. I'm not hungry like I used to be and get satisfied with a lot less.

The wind blew down part of my fence and I gotta go fix it. Still have to fix the damaged roof shingles too. It gets pretty windy here sometimes and usually my cacti become trash catchers.

Raman Prasad is my main man. I thought I'd never ever be able to *enjoy* food again. Really, check this out. You'll be in the kitchen a little more than you might otherwise have liked, but it's worth it.

Hey, Bett, I could stand to lose some weight and clean up my act a bit. I'll go back on with you if you want some moral support in a thread. :)

Whateva.

I am, apparently, allergic to wheat, cow dairy, corn and MSG. I cut them all out, strictly for over two years and, wow, what a difference. I ate beans and veggies like I was Jabba the Hut at a Las Vegas buffet and still the pounds fell away. My body seems to have healed, which is good because I don't have a lot of options here but I still try to keep the grain stuff to a minimum.

For sweeteners, try stevia or Agave nectar. They're natural, taste awesome, and don't have the nice tumour-producing chemicals. You can even find a stevia cookbook.

Rice pasta, goat diary, (milk and cheese), and gluten-free everything and I feel terrific!

My brother-in-law has to completely aviod gluton it is a real job. He has really lost weight but 3 years later he seems to have stableized. I have medical issues, in resoponce to them I have been making a pretty dedicated effore to avoid High Frutitos Corn Syrup...just taking my medicine which helps me proccess sugers better (no I'm not dieabetic in fact i make far to much insulin) and cutting this out of my diet i have lost over 25% of my weight in the last 5 years. Slow but steady seems to be good...I still have a little to go but concidering the number of diets ect i tried previously....

Hypoglycemic?

I need to go back on a strict hypoglycemic diet but with all that's been going on I haven't wanted to add any more stress to my life.

But the pop has got to go. I had a strict rule that I would not spend money on pop, so all I drank at work was fine, so long as I never paid a dime for it. But the adiction has sunk in now and I'm buying a 20oz here and there. So I need to cut it out all together and go back to only drinking water at work. Last time it took 2 weeks for the headaches and cravings to stop, but once that was gone I had more energy, I felt better, I lost weight, and I noticed my skin wasn't as oily even after working in the grill all day. So back on the all water. And this time I will stick with it even when he asks "is that all you drink is water?" While I'm in Ireland.

Betts, how did you first notice the issue? What caused you to realise it was a gluten issue?

Doughnuts and pizza.. They both make me bloat up and they give me cramps. It took a while though, years to get it figured out because it crept up and got worse slowly so I just thought it was normal and that I had trouble digesting that stuff. Not the whole allergy, intolerance with autoimmune thing.

When my blood platelet count was less than half of normal and I was getting anemic and finally went to the doctor it started to come together. Still took a while to figure out though.

So it took bloodwork to show it?

That's some scary shit.

That's how they confirm that's what it is from your symptoms.

I had blood tests done for my stomach problems to confirm it wasn't coeliac's or IBS.

A friend of mine with it told me that the tests aren't always conclusive either. She said that it can be difficult to diagnose.

I haven't had many issues with food other than allergies, which I'm allergic to a lot of crap, so I have to be careful...But soda had once been something I drank a cup or two of a day. I really like milk and lemonade, so I drank more of that than soda, but ever since I got pregnant, I can't even SMELL soda without gagging. I don't miss it, honestly...I doubt I'll go back to drinking it after the baby comes. I got myself a faucet water filter and I'm drinking TONS of water lately and I love how crystal clear my skin has gotten. I think the caffeine was breaking me out.

I'm an unsweetened tea with lemon maniac for cold bevvies - you can do interesting ones like jasmine and mint, and it's very cheap.

Lunch was white bean, tuna, lemon, olive oil and black pepper on a bed of greens, probably my favorite ever braindead simple mainstay.

I think dinner will be burger with cilantro and green pepper, a little roasted potato (naughty, not SCD, but no wheat at least) and more greens.

The chiropractor I used to go to kept a large jar of sugar on the front counter of his reception area. Underneath was a sign that said something along the lines of "This is how much sugar you are consuming per week if you drink an average of __ ounces of pop every day." (Sorry the numbers elude me). If I wasn't already sworn off the stuff, that would have done it! Holy crap there's a lot of sugar in pop!!

My nickname for sugar is "white death".

Part of the reason I drink martinis is to avoid the mixers that go with most bar drinks, the yeast in beer, and the sugar in wine. Yes, I drink straight gin for my health - commence laughter.

That was pretty much the allowable SCD booze, as funny as that seems when you're in the death grip of a CD flare and don't really wanna party.
