How do you feel about longer stories?

I've just written a longer story (15 pages) that has three distinct sex scenes. The piece is explicit but also gets heavily into the characters motivations and emotions. My question is, how do you feel about longer erotic stories and also, what type of feedback have you received from readers about longer stories you posted?

This is not my first story, but it is my first erotic story, so sorry if this is a basic question. :) Thanks (as always) for any thoughts.

I find long stories hard to read online, but it doesn't seem to bother most people, as long as all those words have some effect other than numbing the reader

If you have written it well, then the only negative comments will be based on not getting off soon enough. Don't worry about them. :rose:

Have you thought about dividing it into chapters?

Yes. The story has three short chapters, each of which has its own sex scene.

That's fine. So it's around 5,000-7,000 words? That's not really a long story.

Honestly? It doesn't matter HOW many sex scenes you can work into a story. If the lead-in is suspenseful, if the sex ticks? You have it made in one sex scene.

I write them. It depends what you mean by "pages". 15 A4 pages isn't long by my standards. My longer stories are 6 to 8 Lit pages at about 7 A4 pages each = 50 to 70 A4 pages.

I also write probably the most really short stories on Literotica at 50 words each.

My long stories get fewer views and votes than my shorter stories.

50 words, OG? I thought the minimum was 750 at least?

It really depends. If I load up a story, read the first page and see that there are 8+ pages still to go I probably won't read it. I have limited time for such pursuits and anything over 5 pages has to be really good or I have to split it up over a couple of days.

I'd assume you mean 15 MS Word pages? If so, that's not really so long. If you mean 15 Lit pages, then yeah, that's a long story.

I find the feedback varies. If the story is well written, I don't pay much attention to how long it is, especially if it's posted in chapters. If it's a very long story posted all in one chapter, it might take me a few days to read it, but that won't make it any less appealing.

In any case, every reader has their preference as does every author. I, myself prefer not to allow my stories/chapters to go over 3 Lit pages. And I have read some stories with multiple chapters that have as many as 8 or 9 Lit pages for each chapter.

Your results will probably vary by category also. :)

Hi, Snar, and welcome to Literotica and the AH in particular. 15 pages on your hard disk is about 8,000 to 9,000 words, not a particularly long story. :D If you have three separate and distinct sex scenes, compared to one scene where a couple performs three different sex acts, I have to wonder if you can really do justice to them. Personally, I like to get quite graphic and detailed and, in a story as short as that, I would probably only have one scene involving one couple or possibly a threesome. To have three different sex scenes, each one described in detail, I would probably write a story twice that length.

You could break it into three chapters, or you could leave it just one story. I would probably do the latter, because it is really too short to break up that much.

ETA: I have gotten feedback saying a story should have been edited down, but I have gotten quite a lot more saying the story was too short, and asking for more.

I don't read long stories, (over 3 LIT pages) unless they're exceptionally well-written, which would be evident in the first paragraph. However, I think a long story (5 or 6 LIT pages) just won a contest here, so obviously, I'm not a normal reader.

I believe one LIT page equals approximately 3k-3.5k words, but I may be wrong.
