A while back my wife and I saw a young lady standing outside a local grocery store counting her money while looking at the sales flyer. Next to her stood her little boy. Both were dressed in worn clothing that was clean and cared for. When she turned away from the store without going in I stepped up and asked if there was some way I could help.

My wife and I listened to her story. She was divorced and had just moved down here to get away from her Ex. She lived in a small apartment but the rent and child care took most of her money. She needed food but didn't have the money for it. I told her to wait then went on a short shopping spree. I bought as much food as I thought she could carry and brought it out to her. I also had a friend of mine give me a list of groups that might be able to help her out. That was a bit over a year ago.

Today my wife and I went back to that same store to pick up a couple of things. (They were having a nice sale on meats.) When we came out I stopped to zip up my leathers. As I was doing this I heard a very timid voice behind me. When I turned to see who was there I was confronted by a young woman in the uniform of the local Police Department. She stood there looking at me as I looked at her. Somehow I recognised her but I had absolutely no idea from where. Finally she broke the silence and asked me if I could remember helping out a young woman at that store. I thought about it and told her I did. She started smiling and told me that had been her. I started smiling as she told me how my buying her the food had helped but that my giving her the numbers of people to contact had helped even more.

We stood out there for quite a while. Her a young woman in her nice uniform and me, the biker with the long hair and heavy leathers. My wife and I listened as she told us about getting into the police academy and now working for the local police. I'm sure we scandalised more than a few people when she hugged both my wife and myself.

I'm glad to see she's doing well.
