Do you fear eternal damnation?

With so many of us breaking the rules and loving it, I was wondering if there are some who fear divine retribution?

When you don't believe there is such a thing as hell, it's kinda hard to be afraid of it.

I did until Bush stepped down.

I'm much happier now.

I believe we create our Heaven or Hell and are not the objective of the Universe.

Beyond that I don't fuckin' know.

I was raised by a jazz musician bohemian who chose reincarnation, so I, myself, do not and have not feared eternal damnation. But, with so many god-fearing folks in the ole U.S.A., it seems to me a few must haunt the halls of Literotica. Not that they will post.

I have met a few people who seems to be driven by being dirty or nasty and often attribute this attitude to their religious upbringing. Maybe, I have been wrong all these years. Religion or no, people get a KICK out of being bad!

I go with Mae West on this one. "When I am good, I am very very good. But, when I am bad, I am better." Or something like that.

If I worried about I would never get nothing done. I kind of belive in the reincarnation ideal.

Yep. I'm pretty sure when I get to heaven, God is going to flip His laptop around and be like, "Did you write this, My Child?" and then He's gonna send me directly to the down elevator. ;) He'll probably give me a troll vote, just for kicks.

If there is a hell and you go there for writing erotica, it could be the most well attended Lit Together ever! LOL Something to look forward to.

I was definitely raised with the idea that sinners go to hell. As I've gotten older, I suppose I have come to the conclusion that religion has always been used as a form of social control. I want to believe there is someone out there who is more powerful than me, however, I can't seem to believe that he/she wants my soul to burn in hell for enjoying what my body was made to enjoy. Now... will I tell my family I write erotica?

There are some things a mom doesn't need to know. Especially, because she WILL assume I'm going to hell. :D

I do not suffer this, but relatives that are CERTAIN you are going to HELL for your behavior and quirks, must really be hell on earth.

I could tell my mother I am writing erotica, no problem, it was telling my kids. They were supportive, of course. So far, only my daughter has seen my work and I was deeply embarrassed to share it. But I value her editorial inpurt, she is so good at it. So, when I finally get my novel where I like it, I have decided to share it with all four of my grown children, aged 18 to 31.

Another step towards personal acceptance and the freedom to be my sexual self.

If i and my lovers are damned to hell for having fun and loving each other than i don't want heaven. And if we do end up down there, ah well Lucifer will have a bunch of kick ass demons !

re: fear eternal damnation?

I agree with Cloudy. Eternal damnation is in the beliefs of mainstream Christianity and I'm not part of that. I once was, but it was too restrictive for my soul. I have my own codes and have been influenced mainly by the wisdom of indigenous people. I believe in the Golden Rule and karma. I believe that whatever I do affects all of the web of creation - for better or for worse - and that, if anything, is my damnation. Any acts that are selfish, harm others or any part of creation will eventually ripple back onto / into me.

We are not saved by our own deeds but by Grace. Grace is a gift that was given through the crucifixion of Jesus and His resurrection. Sure as I am of God's justice, I know that there is a Hell. Sure as I am of God's mercy, I know that there is no one in it. ;)

But does one gain Grace by fucking like a crazy person? If so, then Heaven ain't so bad.

I can't fear something I don't believe in...but if Hell exists, I'm going to be so busy shaking hands I won't notice the heat...that and negotiating with Old Scratch for rights to the ice water concession. :D

I could say the same, from the other end. I am positive that there is no god, no "gift of grace" and no resurrection.

No hell to worry about. No heaven to wait for.

And our entire moral worth comes from the deeds we do. If there's any grace, it comes via our own mercy. If we desire a just world, we must create it ourselves

According to our priest, Episcopalians are required to believe in Hell, but they are not required to believe that anyone actually resides there.

I base my actions on the golden rule. Writing erotica does not hurt my wife. If fact, she encourages it. Posting pics of myself does not hurt my wife. In fact, she encourages it.

Sleeping with another woman (or a man, I suppose) would hurt my wife. Therefore I don't do it. I wouldn't want to be hurt in the way that me being unfaithful would hurt my wife.

Giving yourself up for the good of another is the beginning and the end of morality and of happiness. I would love to make choirs of angels sing for another woman or eight. But I choose my life and my way because I can be part of forging a happiness that is greater than my own petty self.

Hell has nothing to do with any of that.

No. I don't fear it. Assuming that heaven and hell are true, the punishment doesn't fit the crime. A just and loving God wouldn't send me to damnation of all time for the things that I've done in this infinitely small nano second of an existance when compared to eternity.
