Need a plant identified.

I inherited this plant from a previous employer who retired last year. He has no idea what it is. He said his secretary from ten years ago gave it to him when it was only about 2 inches high and it had the oddly spiral leaves then as well. It bloomed once, several years ago, and he said the blossom was "very, very odd," but that was all that he could tell me about it. It is now just under three feet tall, with a woody stem. It appears to have the ability to grow into a tree. I've been thinking it might be in the ficus family, but I've been unable to find anything that even remotely compares to it. Anyone have any ideas?

This is ticking me off in ways you can't imagine. ;)

i've seen this thing, with label no less, in the last two months. i picked the photo for a reason. When this flowers, it does the same vine off the end of a leaf thing as the leaf off a vine off the end of a leaf in your quoted photo.

i'm bouncing between a couple of pages if you wish to look further.

Hooray! Thanks a million, AA! Most definitely a Croton or Codiaeum Variegatum, although I'm leaning towards the "Curly Boy" cultivar since that shows the plant with several twists in each leaf. The too-little sun I have it in explains why it has much more green than the colorful partial to full sun ones.

Wow, this is terrific! I've been terrified that I might kill the poor guy. Knowing what he is will ensure he gets the proper care. Thanks so much for your help! He's going to be lovely.
