Ok, this is really just something I have literally thaught up this minute, but only because of a direction a certain conversation went (Cheers Chas! ) What would you all say to a Dr Who ORP? One not focussed on the Doctor, but more on the Doctor's foes. I know it could be tricky to pull off, but there's the whole of time and space to draw apon for inspiration!

Depending on what kind of responses I get, I'll have more info available for what's rattling around in the ol' bonebox at a later time

Wow. Either you must be really old, I must be really young, or I've just lived under a rock for most of my life, because I've heard of Dr. Who, but I'm not at all familiar with him or his story. I get the feeling that he's from maybe the '60s or '70s, well before I was born. Am I correct?

Yes, the show started back in the 60's, far from our shores, but it got rather popular, enough so that it got shown on pbs ALOT, anyway.

I remember watching them as a kid...

Anyways, from what I've heard about Dr. Who, which isn't much, I get the impression that it's the predecessor of James Bond. Is that correct?

The character of the Doctor was initially shrouded in mystery. All that was known about him in the programme's early days was that he was an eccentric alien traveller of great intelligence who battled injustice while exploring time and space in an unreliable old time machine called the TARDIS, an acronym for Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space. As it appears much larger on the inside than on the outside, the TARDIS has been described by the Third Doctor as "dimensionally transcendental" and, due to a malfunction of its Chameleon Circuit, is stuck in the shape of a 1950s-style British police box(Phone booth).

However, not only did the initially irascible and slightly sinister Doctor quickly mellow into a more compassionate figure, it was eventually revealed that he had been on the run from his own people, the Time Lords of the planet Gallifrey.

As a Time Lord, the Doctor has the ability to regenerate his body when near death. Introduced into the storyline as a way of continuing the series when the writers were faced with the departure of lead actor William Hartnell in 1966, it has continued to be a major element of the series, allowing for the recasting of the lead actor when the need arises. The serial The Deadly Assassin established that a Time Lord can regenerate twelve times, for a total of thirteen incarnations (although at least one Time Lord, the Master, has managed to circumvent this). To date, the Doctor has gone through this process and its resulting after-effects on nine occasions, with each of his incarnations having his own quirks and abilities but otherwise sharing the memories and experience of the previous incarnations:

And as for David leaving, I am saddened and grief stricken. Not only did he pull me into Dr Who in the first place (I didn't like Eccleson and I'm too young to have seen the originals - but I did read the books avidly) he's given the franchise a great ride for the last couple of years.

I saw a photo of his replacement and on looks alone, I confess I'll probably not like the next series. But then again, if he's good, I won't mind. He just looks like a tart

But in all seriousness, how do you think you could run a thread based soley (if not then I apologise) on his vast enemies? Most of which are dead or imprisoned anyway. That is if you're taking it from the current Time Line.

I'm not really sure. Maybe it was the high-tech gadgets and the many enemies the character had to deal with that made me think of James Bond.

But now that Ravenloft has provided some enlightenment, I see that Dr. Who is nothing like James Bond.

I for one would like to take a part in this thread, especially because it has to do something with the Doctor.

If it has something to do with his numerous enemies (which makes this thread so much fun to join as you have a lot to choose from) then I would love to have something to do with the Daleks.... how could you not love a character who goes around saying EXTERMINATE! before blasting you into ashes.

Ok. To aswage all your fears, the Doctor and/or his companions are a possability. Companions moreso than the doctor (Otherwise we all know roughly how it would end up). But yes. More of a focus on the monsters. Daleks are fine, but because they are quite hard, I'd probably have to limit it to 2-4. For my part, I'll bring in Cybermen!

Well, looking good so far. All I need to do now is ask what characters/ aliens/ foes everyone would be wanting, and then weave together a story!

Remote detection and detonation of land mines.

To open an electronic door.

Undoing wrist clamps.

Detection of anti-matter.

Creation of a spark of fire and ingniting swamp gas .

Detecting and stopping telepathic signals.

Interfacing with a computer.

As a medical scanner and diagnostic tool.

Obtaining money from a cash machine.

Battery charging.

Resonating concrete.

Completely corroding thin metal (e.g. barbed wire) so that it crumbles into rust.

Re-connecting barbed wire.

Reversing teleport devices.

Dematerialising the TARDIS and initalising TARDIS processes from outside the craft.

To transfer its powers to the viewer's remote control.

As a lighter.

To make the Cybermen turn away from the Doctor's direction.

To cut rope.

To threaten the Wire.

To partially reverse the Abzorbaloff's absorption of Ursula Blake.

Detonation of an explosive device.

Get money from cash machine, at both regular and extra-high rates of ejection

To destroy the Robot Santas with sound.

To increase radiation output of device's such as X-Ray scanners, burning out the screwdriver.

Breaking into several motorway cars.

Trying to strip off pieces of Dalekanium

Bypassing and turning off security systems.

In conjunction with a pipe organ, it produced hypersonic sound waves which lead to the death of the Lazarus Creature.

Scanning for the transformed Lazarus Creature after it escaped to Southwark Cathedral

Locking the TARDIS navigational systems to only allow travel between its current position and its previous position.

fixing a decades-broken Vortex Manipulator

Think of it this way. If the Doctor is Sherlock Holmes then the Master is Professor Moriarty .
