A Justice Department attorney told a federal judge Wednesday that the White House found 14 million "missing" e-mails that for nearly two years were the subject of several lawsuits and congressional inquiries and widespread speculation that the documents were destroyed.

Helen Hong, an attorney in the Justice Department's civil division, said the White House spent $10 million to locate the e-mails. She said the e-mails would be transferred to the National Archives and Records Administration, along with 300 million of other documents in accordance with the Presidential Records Act, immediately after President George W. Bush leaves office next Tuesday.

Well that explains it all then. While the President said he couldn't find them, of course no noe could refute the "I can't recall" defense of the Thugs. Just days before the change, "Oh wow We found 'em".

So George finally found the "On" button for his computer, eh? About fucking time, Georgie Boy.

Naw. The server just took an extra-long time getting the messages from one computer to the another. They shoulda used Road Runner.

Luckily, it's all Spam anyway ;)

I wonder if any of them were sent to one of these forums. Or maybe feedback on a story. I remember one email I got that described one of my stories as being "educationamal."

The tubes were clogged!!!

Riiight, just found them. What - was the backup tape used to shim a server cabinet? Give me a break.

I hope there's a contempt charge coming for that.

You losers are obsessed!

What was that about?

The Crook in the White House "looses the tapes" and just when he's about to leave, "suddenly" finds them? What are we obsessed about?

I swear that you are just an appoligist for the law breaking Repugnicans. I don't see why pointing out the 'strangeness' of this is "obsessive".

GWB broke our laws and should be tried in a court of law. Then we would see if he is guilty or not. If he is, then we can string him up. Simple.

If he is innocent it gives him a forum to clear his "good name", you'd think he would want that. Oh right he a scaredy cat, draft dodging, coward, I guess we shouldn't enforce the law if we are going to scare the Ex-President.

That's got GWB written all over it.

How about some more Bushisms specific to this site:

Maybe they had been misplaced in the same location as the records of the Rose Law Firm.

Very strange indeed...not really.

A disc crash here a back up failure there, a system admin thinking he's doing a favor for the boss, an IT director not thinking an upgrade path out thoroughly...any of these things could relegate a group of emails lost or redundant.

I have lost copies of emails on my own machine due to disc failure even though I archived them into a separate folder. I thought I had copied them to an external disc when I hadn't. I even had it written down that I had copied them.

Imagine the volume of emails generated by the white house staff...all those emails to Aunt Martha wishing her happy birthday take up a lot of space when you attach that high resolution picture of you and the president.

Especially the ones that all dated from the period requested by Congress to investigate the politicization of the Justice Department. Funny coincidence, no?

The point I'm trying to make is everyone blames the man in the office when he may not really know what's going on. Or he might know. But accusations with out proof are meaningless and just prove nothing.

Yes George is probably an incompetent, bumbling puppet, but until there is proof, filling the air with accusations is a waste of time and energy.

Whether W is personally responsible for deleting files or not, clearly his administration played fast and loose with regulations requiring them to retain all correspondence between executive branch staffers and others. Ultimately, because it's his administration, he is responsible.
