The purpose of this thread is to give people (like me) a place to say thank you, to show our support for the mods and/or to counteract some of the things that are being said (i.e. EVERYBODY is unhappy, etc). You don’t need to have liked everything that has been done or said by them, but if we want to see them stay as our moderators then I think we should tell them that, cuz gawd knows they are getting plenty of negative feedback.

So to all the rest of you "EVERYBODIES" who AREN’T unhappy, who think the mods are doing a GOOD job or who just want to show some support in a non-confrontational way. Make a post and say “hey, you guys are okay by me”.

P.S. If you want to spew you hate/rancor/bullshit against the mods, please do it in another thread. Thanks.

I appreciate what the mods have done to add contests to the PF&D forum. I was disappointed in the lack of participation in the Halloween contest, but that is no reflection on them. I remember them urging people to submit and vote. Now, to take on the task of a poetry Survivor contest is huge and I applaud them for that. (And of course, I will participate in the Survivor contest as long as the poetry does not have to be posted in the PF&D forum.)

:rose:

Isn't that where it is?

Well, it isn't anywhere yet, but what I was saying is that as long as the poetry Survivor contest is held like the regular Survivor contest in that poems are submitted to Literotica and not in the PF&D forum itself, then I'm in.

But, really, I don't want to hijack SB's most excellent thread. My intention was not to detract from its purpose.

okay by me too

Honestly, and I mean this as no knock on anyone, but I'm just not understanding what the fussin's all about. Now, the other night, a house down the street got ran into and there was apparently a shooting involved. I hear it was domestic. An ex. I'd call that something to fuss about.

But I figured it all out. It's all about whether someone is more a Pepsi person or a Coke person. Or if a person loves both of them the same. I love both the same. If I would go to a restaurant and order a Coke and they bring it and the waitress fearfully whispers, "this is really pepsi" I wouldn't make a big fuss about it. But someone else might.

I'm pretty sure it won't be, but I haven't seen Lauren's plan yet either. I'm guessing she'll have it set up pretty much the same as the authors' contest, where you submit the stuff and have a scorecard in the other forum (the awards forum). I could be wrong, but I'll be surprised if I am.

SB, this thread is embarrasing, but thank you. Thank you all. It's no fun to be attacked. We did some pretty dumb stuff this past year. Otoh our hearts are really in the right place and we do adore poetry. I know some think that's not true, but there's nothing I can do about that.

"hey you guys are ok by me"

I am all for free speech but without the guiding hand of moderators we would all be living in a place like the GB ~ Shudder ~ So bring on the velvet glove

well said.
i love pepsi, but fully respect your right to drink coke. i'll even knock back a ginger ale from time to time.

You know I love ya, Ange. I appreciate the challenge it must be to be a moderator.

I do get a little lost when threads are broken up. I'd say leave posts whole in their context as much as possible, but that it isn't a problem to try to shift chit chat threads up into the hangout.

I suppose that the threads that are started in the hangout should stay there if that's what the OP wants, as Eve has been saying. It would be great if no one on the PF&D sniped at one another, but I'm not sure how I feel about the moderator's job there except that probably it should be seen as neutral between parties while making a plea for civility.

I love the contests, especially the anonymous ones. I'll try Survivor. It is wonderful to see you two writing poems again. I love seeing you post poems and see no conflict between that and your jobs as moderators. It's not an easy job. Thank you for doing it.

I do and I love you, too. I'm so glad we finally got to really know each other. :)

I'm not moving anything from the Hangout, not anything that has been established here. Maybe in the future and not to be difficult or pull rank or anything nefarious, but there might be a legitimate reason to move a new thread from one place to the other. It doesn't make sense to me to rule it out forever.

And I need to explain something. The options mods have (I mean technically what's available) is to delete, move or split a thread or post from its original place. Anything "deleted" gets moved to a forum called the "Mod Queue." That's for all forum moderators to move spam to or anything that breaks forum rules, anything that needs to be taken off for whatever reason. You don't see it (or another forum not for general use) unless you're a moderator or administrator.

When we split threads (like Eve did with the "whole with your hole" one), the "split" part in the forum where the original thread was posted keeps the title of the original thread starter. The posts that are split off and moved to another forum show up as if the thread were started by whoever made the last post moved from the thread. So if I started the original thread and then split off some posts and move them, the original will still say started by Ange, but if your post was the last one moved--not chosen to be last, but the last in order of date and time posted of the group moved, the moved thread would appear to have been started by you. There isn't anything underhanded about that; it's just how the system works.

I don't like splitting threads but sometimes there's a good reason for it. Sometimes we think there is and it turns out not to be such a good idea and we move things back. Sometimes we try to take the medium road to please everyone in these actions and it ends up that nobody likes it. It just happens that way sometimes because you can't please everyone. There's a lot of misconception, it seems, about this so I wanted to try to explain. And in the six years I've moderated the forum, I'd say I've deleted, moved, or split maybe 50 threads and almost all of them have been spam. And of the others, some are moved at the thread starter's request because they repeated the thread or feel they messed up somehow.

Any of this information can be checked with Laurel or any other forum moderator. That's how the system works and how we were taught to use it.

As I've mentioned previously and elsewhere, I remember why the position of moderator became that held by an incarnation of 3 people who were regular participants of the unmoderated Poetry Feedback and Discussion forum. There were contests and threads that kept getting lost amidst the varied and colourful "I Wrote This Poem For My Favourite Slave" threads. Discussions such as the New Poems Review thread and the monthly contest submissions and voting threads were falling back to page 2 or the meat of the thread was being buried under all of the extra fat caused by the "thanks for the mention" calorie posts. Right now, since almost everyone has high speed or DSL connections, that doesn't seem like such a bother, but hearken back to even just under a year ago when dial-up ruled our modems and imagine trying to load a thread of over a thousand posts with .gif extensions on everyone's signatures... 'nuff said?

That's why collectively, many forum participants were thankful that Lauren Hynde, Angeline and WickedEve graciously accepted the mantle of Poetry Feedback and Discussion forum Moderator under the alter ID of ThePoets. It wasn't all that long ago that they decided it would be easier to wear their own ID's as moderators since the business of logging on and off of ThePoets username became cumbersome and, to many newbies, confusing.

I thank them for bearing the insult of SPAM tracing, no one should have to look at some of that junk more than once in a lifetime, that I'm sure the moderators do uncomfortably often.

I thank them for their efforts to be polite and (mostly) calm when the going gets unacceptably personal and disturbing. We're all mere humans and if there are emotional decisions made that mark an uncomfortable alliance, then as members of the community, we should be open to accepting apologies and any efforts made to set right the errors and try not to impede those attempts.

Every one of the community members here is an ADULT and every one of us should be intelligent enough to realize that for most people this place doesn't hold a deeply personal or emotional role in their day to day living. So what seems a MASSIVE insult to some really isn't very much to worry about for at least just as many others.

If you think you could be an adequate Poetry Feedback and Discussion moderator who can be online on this webpage for at least an hour every day and answer to both negative and positive feedback in a non-judmental and reasonably timely manner, please step up to the plate. I'll bet the people who currently have their lives impacted by filling this position would be happy to hand over the responsibility and simply write poems and poetry critique... (Did I mention that in spite of the moderator position entailing the former activities, the moderators also unfailingly offer the latter, too?)

Thanks.

Amen!!!

I have gone through the phase of being angry at the moderators for this or that thing. Much of it came from being too deep into the lit. world, taking things too seriously, and the misconception that they had some magical power over what goes on.

Truth is they are only human. Wives, mothers, hard working women who do this job as a public service. They make mistakes, which should be taken as that, mistakes. I once was delusional enough to think that there were ulterior motives behind certain issues, but damn, I know now that they do not have time to be sneaky or to scheme and dream up evil plans. They are too busy being sexy, talented and trying to keep some kind of peace and productivity around here.

So thank you, Moderators, keep doing your best in keeping the wheels in motion.

Angel? Now you go too far, M'aam. Mam. M'am. Why can't I spell it? Mammary. Don't make me go back and find my all too bitchy posts. Just spank me now and I will pretend it never happened.

You were an angel. That's all I remember now. We have some of your feathers on display in a thread somewhere.

That is the nicest thing you have ever said to me. I am going to steal that line and put it in a poem.

TAG!

Hmm, that whole feathers on display would be good in a poem.

it is perfect
I swear it made me want to cry.

Maybe we can have it be an anon poetry challenge.

An Ode.

using the concept of feathers on display.

You have to guess who wrote it or maybe have it be non-anon and guess who it was written for :)

Whose feathers would you display -- after plucking your beloved clean?
Yeah, that's screaming to be a poetry challenge. I like it!

whoohoo!

okay I have to post something about furry girls and then do lunch and then then then

um
unless you wanna just do it being it was your line and all...
