Help Wanted In Australia For 'Best Job In The World'
SYDNEY, Australia - Position: island caretaker.

Duties: lazing around Australia's Great Barrier Reef for six months.

Salary: 150,000 Australian dollars ($100,000).

Unemployed, take heart - the aforementioned job ad is for real. Billing it the "Best Job in the World," the tourism department in Australia's Queensland state on Tuesday said it was seeking one lucky person to spend half a year relaxing on Hamilton Island, part of the country's Whitsunday Islands, while promoting the island on a blog.

The move is part of a AU$1.7 million campaign to boost tourism in the state. In exchange for the plush salary, free accommodation in an oceanfront villa and airfare from the winner's home country, the "employee" will be required to stroll the island's white sand beaches, snorkel, maybe take a dip in the pool - and post photos and videos of his or her experiences on a weekly blog.

"It'll be huge," Tourism Whitsundays chief executive Peter O'Reilly said, adding he expected thousands will apply.

Applications are open until Feb. 22 and 11 finalists will be flown to Hamilton Island in May for the final selection process. The job begins on July 1.

So who is takig the applications in here ???

Nope...whilst the pay seems fine it only goes for 6 months, I believe they have already had 200 applications. Then it is Queensland...need a passport and an operation, OK I'm only kidding the operation is optional.

I'm going to Canberra on Saturday, now there's a weird fucking town, kind of like going to Utah.

you have a monster 8gb and how much hard drive , I have 320 , thought it was a lot. Yours must be faster than the speed of light ! Makes my 19 inch sound like a pixie !

I dunno how hot it actually was today but it was a real stinker - luckily a cooler change has come through now and I can open the doors and windows. Gil had to go to the doctors at 2pm and we nearly melted in the 40 mins or so we were out.

I hope it's cooler tomorrow!!

We're looking for one a little smaller than that - at least 2GB RAM, preferably 3 is the main requirement. We have a monitor, keyboard, mouse etc - just need the tower :)

1 TB is around 1,000 GB.

Quad core at 2.4gHz is four 2.4gHz CPUs. So in simple terms, god damn fast.

hahahahaha
That is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time!
:rose:

No the real funny thing is that I'm making the trip to see if I can live there or not...apparently Canberra has a nightlife...may be its just one night they share around, there aren't enough of them to keep it going any longer.

Nice one (well, other than Vista!) I remember how excited I was getting my GeForce 6800 512MB card, but that was almost 3 years ago! It makes me want to upgrade.

It all depends on if she's sick that night or night

I went Vista as it is the only Windows, ATM, that will use all four CPUs. XP sees them but will not use them. I think you can hack into XP and make it use Quad cores, but I rather stay well away from illegal things.

If I wasn't going to Sydney I'd buy a 2nd Geforce 9800 and get SLI. I can buy a 3rd and smaller video card and do 3-way-SLI, but no games use that, I think.

I think MS Flight Sim X with all the graphics options on high with Vista and DirectX 10 would give 3 way SLI a run for its money - I have a Quad Core 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, eVGA motherboard and eVGA 8800 ultra. its about a year old but its awsome :)

Hi {{{{{{{Bandit}}}}}}}

Umm if I could figure out how, I'd share some of our cold with you. It has warmed up a bit but it is still -11F where I am.

The news last night said it was 33C but it felt hotter than that to me - poor rasher and ICR were sweltering in 42C (they live in western Sydney we are near the coast so we get the sea breezes).

Gil has the flu and we may not make the speedway meeting tonight, have to see how he is when he comes off dialysis at about 5.20pm. He got some antibiotics yesterday and he says he feels a bit better but he's really tired - luckily he can sleep while he's on the machine :) It is a 2 night meeting so we might make the final night tomorrow.

Gil has a chest infection, He got antibiotics on Thursday but they don't seem to be working. He started getting very short of breath at lunchtime today so I called an ambulance...we spent over 8 hours in the ER before they finally admitted him to a ward, hopefully just for tonight. He's been on a nebuliser, had some prednisone and now feels much better but they want to keep an eye on him what with all His other problems.

Hopefully some different antibiotics will make a difference!

I hope they found the right antibiotics for him. It usually takes them 2-4 days to kick in.
Hugs to you both! :rose:

I'll add him back into the Native American Prayer Circle we have here...
I hope you are trying to get some rest while he is getting his breathing back :rose:

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Bandit & Gil}}}}}}}}}}}}}  You are in my prayers.

Did they run a culture on the infection to determine what the bug is? Using these broad spectrum antibiotics indescriminately have gotten all of us in so much trouble. Hope they do check for and select the right one.

He rang this morning, they've had him on the nebuliser a few more times and started him on new antibiotics. It sounds like he won't be coming home just yet, they're talking about dialysing him tomorrow at the hospital (which seems silly to me because he'll only get a maximum of 5 hours there when he can get 8 at home)

I'm going to my yoga class at 10am and then off to visit (they don't let you in before 10 anyway, but you can stay til 8pm if you want).
