Finally, I've seen in the local paper for here, which covers only an area of 25 x 15 miles, on the weddings page, a picture of two gay guys who celebrated their civil partnership.

I've been waiting to see how long before the paper printed a picture of two very happy men, arms around each other, with all the details of their day, and their honeymoon, groomsmen, families, just like the ones of the het couples.

And there it was. Finally. I am so happy that even in this very conservative little place, common sense has reached the local paper.

That said, in the whole time Min and I have lived here, we have not once experienced any negative comments from a single person - employer, colleague, family, friend, local authority, landlord, neighbours - not a single person has even blinked at the knowledge that we are a couple, so I don't know why I'm surprised, but I am.

Well done guys, I'm delighted that you had a wonderful day.

I think it's very British that they don't blink at it. basically, Brits are easy-going about sexuality.

I know exactly what you mean Mat. It's so nice to see proof that people are starting to take a sensible attitude to sexual preference. I found a selection of greeting cards in WH Smiths that read "Here Come the Brides" and "Congratulations Boys" and it made me very happy.

Not to mention all the 'Mr & Mr' and 'Mrs & Mrs' cards :) Makes me smile every time i see them, because it means that same-sex is becoming normal. When I have children I want them to grow up not even questioning that same sex is an option, or how their parents will react.

After discovering how much weddings cost from my own, I think I'll recommend homosexuality to any putative daughters of mine, just so I'll have another father of the bride to share the cost with!

Heh - or just train her up to do something very lucrative so she can fund it herself...
