Who can't sleep? Why not? What do you about it? :(

warm milk and soda crackers...it never worked for me but it might for you.

I've had insomnia pretty much since 12. Almost 10 years. Got it from habit of staying up, my mind working a million miles a minute, and such. The only thing that really helps me is liquor. My choice was cool milk and butterscotch schnapps. Just enough to relax my mind to rest.

oh my.......a place to call home. i've been an incurable insomniac forever. i've tried everything short of being hit over the head with a skillet. i'm not looking to sleep that deeply. i can never turn my mind off completely, so i just work around it. i have to turn off any upbeat music. when i'm trying to get to sleep, i'll listen to mellow jazz or classical. classical works a little better for me since i don't really like it, and it bores me to damned near comatose. i'll also read sometimes before going to sleep, to get my eyes tired.

sure booz works, but i've got a pretty high tolerance. the amount it would take to put me out, every knight, would just be destructive. so, while i like to drink, i refrain from that method.
it's never worked for me, but you might try teas like chamomile or valerian root. some people find it effective.

I only drink beer or a little wine. That amount needed to do the trick would ruin my liver.

I have done prescription meds plus the usual home remedies. Sometimes it fades away for a while, but always returns for long periods.

the trick with scrips is, you can't take them every night. i know....sucks, but if you do, you'll just build up a higher tolerance, and they're no longer effective. try staggering them....every other night, at least. as for the home remedies, i hear ya. haven't found one that works yet.

One worked for a time and I stopped for the reasons you described. When I tried it again after 2 months, it took 4-5 hours to knock me out.

For my long term survival I had to leave some nice jobs and work on my own. Now I can work on my schedule, no matter how crazy.

I am a totally night person. I love to craft, read and paint. And the best time to do it is when everyone in the house is asleep so there are no interruptions at all. I love the quietness of the night time. Usually I don't even have the tv on. And sometimes not even music, but I do love to listen music when I am on here. I usually fall asleep around 7am. I may sleep for half an hour or up to 6 hours during the daytime.
I have tried script meds. but none of them work, not even otc sleep meds. work for me. Even a Xanax will not do anything for me at all.
The only time I get any good sleep is when I have had to visit the ER for migrain medicine. Demerol is about the only thing that will let me sleep for a long time, but that is only about once a month.
Meds just seem to have such an opposite effect on me, nothing my dr. gives me works, and it is so frustrating.
So, here I am most nights.

IF,

I have a sleep problem but it sounds as if yours is much worse. I don't like taking meds unless necessary, so usually I just ride these episodes out. Logging on here helps kill the time until sleep hits me. There are days I must be alert, so I may take meds the night before.

........because i stay up all night worrying about things. what do you do at night?

Either listen to the radio or try to chat online. When it gets real bad or some special meeting next day, I might take some meds.
