What did you get for Christmas?

I'm talking about the looot.

I got very few things, which is just fine by me. My kids put their pennies together, and got me a ring-- cheap brass, that's already turning my skin green, but it fits me, and my thumb, perfectly. I've always wanted a thumb ring. This one already feels like it's always been there. It's Tibetan, with the script that says "Om madne padme hum" in Sanskrit, in silver, applied on a copper inset. One of these days I'll get the inside silver-plated.

My employer paid off my laptop for me. And, as I called it "My little pony" once, (and showed him what those toys were via google), he also gave me something that's been hanging around his home for a long time-- a gypsy's carriage whip, made in Yugoslavia, very old. :D:D:D:D

I got a new-ish truck a couple of weeks ago, and then Christmas eve, hubby and I "gifted each other" with a new 56" inch HDtv.

My favorite gifts, though, were from my youngest, picked out all by himself: a wonderfully tacky Auburn purse that I'll use forever, and a pair of very warm, fuzzy gloves. :)

Amongst other stuff, books.

And amongst those, a copy of Arthur Ransome's Winter Holiday.

I have almost all his 'Swallows and Amazons' (and Coots) series, but Winter Holiday was missing.

Now it isn't - and it's the hard back Cape copy with the illustrated dust jacket - woop, woop.

The gob smacker is that that is still in print: it's a brand new copy.

Go, Arthur!

Air. More air than I can ever remember having in my life. Is this the way the rest of you have always breathed? Damn, just damn! Yeah, air. I like air.

Our group of friends had a good idea for this years gift exchange. We all burned CDs of some of our favorite tunes to share. I am looking forward to listening to them all as I'm curious what they listen to. Other than that, I'll be getting a bottle of champagne (nothing fancy here, just something I know I like). Perfect! :)

Mostly the company of my family.

If you want physical stuff I got a copy of What Is America?: A Short History of the New World Order which I've already finished. It had a lot of the history of Native Americans and their 'interactions' with the Europeans. Like over three hundred and fifty treaties made between those of European descent and those of Native descent. And every one of them broken by the Europeans. :(

I got a copy of the book the SO of my brother wrote; The Hebredene Journals.

And I got a fifty dollar gift certificate for a local grocery chain. Should keep me fed for a week.

I received a TomTom One GPS nav system for my truck...it's really cool... t-shirts with game fish pictures on 'em...a wild looking Norelco shaver...a computer vaccum...music CD's and gourmet coffees.

A nice haul. ;)

A couple of CDs, an Annie Leibowitz pic book, a few stocking stuffers...

Me? I received a couple of pairs of scrub pants for work. Scrub pants that not only fit but are just what I need with their multiple pockets and belt loops.

Better than that though was the look on my wifes face as she opened her gifts. A ring based on the ring she gave me for our anniversary. A thin gold chain holding a pendant composed of a single large tear shaped Ruby and something she truly wanted. A new watch.

Other things I have received were cards from family members. Some of these are cherished because I know other members of the family haven't received any.

For me it isn't so much the receiving as the giving.

  1. 1 pair of PJs and 3 pairs of panties from Soma, from my husband
  2. 1 pair of amethyst earrings, also from my husband. Whitehall, a local jeweler, is having a big closeout sale and he practically stole them.
  3. Lord John & the Brotherhood of the Blade, by Diana Gabaldon. Also from my husband. Yes, I told him what to get. How else is he gonna know?
  4. We gave ourselves new dinnerware, because we'd long been dissatisfied with the stuff we'd gotten a couple of years ago.
  5. My mother sent me a book about doing journalism in Iraq, by a Scandinavian reporter named Asne Seirestadt (I think; it's now upstairs and I can't look at the spelling), a Glacier Pearls pendant, an embroidered coin purse with a 25-kuro piece in it and a bird whistle from Ephesus. The bird whistle is the coolest toy I've seen in years. It's made of unfired clay; you fill it partway with water and blow on the rear end of the bird. Experts can make surprisingly realistic bird noises with this thing. When my mother was in the marketplace and heard this old guy working one, she thought it was birds.

I gave my husband two shirts, and I got us a triple egg from Inserection which we'll have to figure out how to use. Since our still-innocent son is still with us, this present did not go under the tree. We gave the son an iPod touch. He had a Classic but he took it with him to a Youth Retreat and it got stolen.

I know, it sounds like I did better than anyone, and I did, but that's because I'm easy to buy presents for. You can give me books and jewelry and I'll be happy.

I was severely spoiled this year by hubby. I got a shiny new Sony laptop, some Ugg boots, a huge box full of fluffy bath towels, a digital photo frame and tons of bath stuff. I was just completely speechless.

A mortarboard charm for my bracelet; a set of NCIS DVDs, a new purse, and a home made (by daughter and hubby - daughter's design) bed table for my laptop to sit on.

And on Christmas Eve we drove 150 mile round trip to get the replacement car- not a Christmas present by design, just a case of the old one's dying fast, but very nice all the same. For all of us.

A new well paying job after eight months of being unemployed. What more could I ask for.

I'm living in a new city, going to make new friends, hook up with some old ones.

It's 75 degrees out and there is no snow on the ground or in the forecast. I'm sitting here in a extended stay hotel, typing on a new laptop (Christmas present to myself), with the a/c running. :D Instead of the heat. :D

Yeah, that last is the best. Nothing means Christmas like happy children. :)

A cuddly Adipose that the fiance must have moved heaven and earth to get because they sell out as soon as someone stocks them, a large amount of Hello Kitty stuff from my sister (two cuddly, five mini figures I've stuck to my monitor), a Me to You keychain watch, along with a GORGEOUS corset shirt and some Urban Decay lipglosses that smell and taste devine from the in-laws, a HUGE hamper from his nanna (we've eaten most of it already!), sterling silver Me to You earrings from my granddad, World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King collectors edition and a Radley handbag from my parents, some really unusual chinese herb bath salts from a family friend and a decent size wad of cash from his aunt and cousin (with the strict instructions to use it on whatever we need to - its going on the gas bill with their blessing).

100 gift certificate to a clothing store

a backpack and some trekking socks and some face lotion and various sweets and a gift certificate for an outdoors store. ah, and a piece of wood with moss on it, that my baby brother found in the forest.

My husband got some Banff Rocks from my mother. She and my daughter had been to Banff recently...Banff Rocks are a kind of sweet. Actually, they're jellybeans made to look like semiprecious stones. Beware the bluish ones, they're mint flavored.
