and sort of online. I went out and bought a new laptop as the place I'm only has WiFi and my desktop doesn't. I know it would have been cheaper to have bought a USB Wifi Stick but I really wanted the laptop anyway. Bought it with part of my signing bonus. Yes, I got a bonus for signing my offer letter.

I don't know how often I'll be on - weekends for sure - during the week is questionable as I work 9 hours for four days and 4 hours on friday.

Well it's good to be back online and Yes I am alive and well in Texas. :D

Glad to hear all is well!

Sounds good. A job is hard to find these days and if you found one that not only gives you a paycheck, but also a sign on bonus, then you have done well.

Alive and well is always good.

A congratulatory  from the good little witch.

Welcome to the Lonestar State there Zeb.

You'll find the weather a whole bunch better than Chicago during the winter but I must warn you about the humidity in the summer. Of course summer starts in April and runs through October. Luckily you have one month each of spring and fall to transition.

Oh yeah, and the speed limit in Houston may say 55 but just try driving that at anything less than midnight on a Tuesday and You'll find out that 70 plus is the actual value.

Have fun in big H

Agreed. To quote Garrison Keillor: "August in Texas is proof there's an angry God."

Welcome to the place. Think you'll find there are a fair number of AH types running loose in Texas.

Rumple Foreskin

Welcome to Texas, the greatest state on earth! :D

After the first of the year, we'll have to get together and show him the sights. There's you, me, and MAX in Big H that I know of. There may be a few more scattered around.

I know of about a dozen across the state

Congrats on your new job, your signing bonus, a successful journey and your new laptop, Zeb. :D

Having spent time in the Lone Star State, I can say it's a fascinating place, I've even been to Luckenbach. ;)

Muleshoe is more fun. ;) :D

Tanks everyone...just got back from dinner with the SO, it was good.

Getting together with fellow litizens here in Houston sounds like a great idea.

:D

Well, damn!

I'm so glad to hear about the job! The move is a surprise!

(Did I miss this?)

Congratulations, and I'm so glad to hear you're getting settled.

I could have sworn that I started a thread, but I'll be damned if I can find it.

Yep it was quick...

Received an email from a headhunter in Texas who got my resume from someone in Atlanta. I called her and she asked if I would like to work in Texas. I talked to my SO and we decided it might be a great opportunity.

Long story short...I said yes, was flown to Houston the next week for an interview. Then the next week they sent me a offer I couldn't refuse. The had movers at my house within a week, the house was packed up and loaded in the truck and us in the car on our way to Houston.

I have been here a week. My household goods show up on Monday...their are going into storage for awhile...and the SO and I are settled into a Studio 6 for a couple of months while we get the feel of the town.

I'm exhausted.

I guess so! :)

But it all sounds good - a terrific opportunity!

Congratulations!

Welcome to Texas, Zeb. Kudos on the new job and computer. If you're ever near Austin, feel free to drop me a line.

You guys stilll have spring and fall?

I did a Houston trip a few years ago and from my short visit the best thing about Texas I noticed was that speed limits were optional. Though watching the post-game fireworks at Minute Maid Park from the hotel was cool.

Hope it all works out for you, Zeb.
